Bio

Damean Lashawn Townsend, known as the artist and producer By Any Means, was born in Albany, N.Y.. In a household full of D.J.s, singers, and rappers, he took to music rather quickly. His mom would rap at local block parties in Albany's rough Arbor Hill neighborhood as Baby Rett and his uncle would take the stage as the DJ G-Force. Before long By Any Means received a toy guitar as a birthday gift and began performing in front of his Orange st. neighbors. His passion for music didn't stop there. At the age of 7 he began writing raps and using his dual deck beat box to make tape loop beats. At the age of 10, in his uncle's home studio, By Any Means began to learn the ins and outs of mixing, blending and sampling. He conjured mixtapes composed of raw beats and freestyles in his late night sessions alone in his uncle's studio. During his high school years he continued to hone his skills as a song writer though he was unable to be around the production equipment he longed for until his sophomore year. By Any Means inherited his uncle's old school Gemini turntables and everyday after football and basketball practice he would be in his room teaching his self the art of DJing. Things were getting good for By Any Means until a fight at school got him sent to an alternative school for a stint of 3 months. To place his focus back in school his parents decided he'd live with his grandmother. After high school, By Any Means and a few of his close friends began to build a project studio. Filled with some of the latest equipment at the time, this is where By Any Means learned to use Daw's and the Mpc. Months later bad luck came by and the studio was lost. Only able to save the Mpc, By Any Means began to build his own studio. Since then he has work with some of the most respected local acts in his city. His teaming with the Gully City off shoot Var city gained him more notoriety with the underground classic "Shake Rub" by the artist Self. Keeping with the formula and with the new name, By Any Means, doors have been opening locally and have showed his production skills are one of the best in the area. After hearing multiple beat tapes from other producers passing off his beats as their own, By Any Means and his partner DJ Mainevent got together to put out a new mixtape series of beats called "Put The Beats On Em". With opportunities opening locally, in Canada, Atlanta, New York City, California and over seas; By Any Means is not thinking about stopping, only succeeding in the art form he love.
