"By Polaroid - This Year's Threat EP Review"

I pretty much knew what to expect when handed the demo of this band as I have had the pleasure of seeing them play once. Although my expectations where already high this band never ceases to amaze me and they promptly blew me away once I pressed play. They already have stepped it up to another level of pure genius.

Their general style is melodic and punchy with a clever use of dynamics and syncopation that adds a certain spark to their performance either live or in the studio. This certainly leaves the crowd dumb struck at the end of every song.

The beautiful vocal styling's of Russ Peskett certainly grabs your attention as he lures the audience into the palm of his hand together with the shredding guitar genius of Joe Hesketh creating unbeatable prog rock riffs to lift you out of your seat. And now with Stu Francis in the engine room on the drums with wing man Dave Fogwell on bass together they create a power packed rhythm section to definitely write home for making ''By Polaroid'' a product worthy of marketing.

The band was originally formed at the start of 2011 by friends Russ and Dave with a simple add on a ''Musicians Wanted'' website and soon got the response they deserved ,enrolling the help of Guitarist Joe and original drummer Joe Lewis.

Soon the guys realised their collaboration was getting them the results they wanted and soon had a comprehensive collection of songs that would take some beating.

After they aired their first song ''Drifters'', they soon discovered a much needed positive response from not only friends and fans but promoters too which gave them the encouragement to write more material, and so the collection grew, but they didn't truly find their sound until the creation of 'Strings and Bedsheets' and 'Friends With Wings'. Once this was achieved the boys soon turned the band into the powerhouse they are today.

Just as they were ready to record their début e.p. the band sadly had to part ways with drummer Joe Lewis.
Although Joe set the standard in beautifully crafting the the drums for this band in stepped drummer Stu Francis to save the day and blended in nicely. Stu ,session drummer and drum tutor, pretty much had his work cut out for him, yet giving it a unique style of his own adding the perfect punch to the dynamics created.

This demo was recorded in the UK at Sound Central studios in Bolney ,West Sussex and really showcases the lads in ultimate style and quality, capturing every nuance created by this highly talented band ,a task that really tested sound engineer Jez Mumford which he did flawlessly, giving the lads a first EP to be proud of .

The band has gone from strength to strength in such a short time which speaks volumes for their future in the industry and soon were playing support to Madina Lake at Brighton’s Concord 2 and are quickly stacking up a collection of avid fans and are well received everywhere they play.

The guys are now on track to fast achieving their goals musically and have secured many gigs with the help of Adrian Tatford of Sound Central Studios, and with the summer coming up look forward to a action packed season with gigs and festivals ,so be sure you catch at least one of them as its an experience NOT to be missed .

So remember the name and add them to this years wish list. - Solo Sound Productions

Bio

By Polaroid was formed in early 2011 by singer Russ Peskett and bassist Dave Fogwill. With an ad on a "musicians wanted" website they were able to secure guitarist Joe Hesketh. At this point the band was formed with the help of drummer Joe Lewis. With a writing style fusing prog rock riffs with melodic vocals and an intricate back line, the songs started coming.

"Drifters" was the first song the band recorded at Sound Central studio's in the summer of 2011, the song had everything in it the guys like about rock 'n' roll. In a sense they play music that they want to hear without compromise.

The guys have kept writing and have grown together to really find their sound. With a healthy number of tracks under their belt and some well received live shows the time was right to record their debut EP. However, at this time the band parted ways with drummer Joe. In stepped Stu Francis, a drum tutor and session drummer. Stu fitted right in with the boys, and one of his first shows with them was a support slot for Madina Lake at the Concorde 2. This huge show was a turning point for the whole band, the buzz of excitement and accomplishment has been with them since.

2012 has already brought more progress for the band, with their debut EP "This Year's Threat" released on CD on the 26th January, while they played as sub-headliner to local grunge outfit Dead Empire for Sound Central Studios' showcase event at The Haunt in Brighton, just a day later. With more gigs over the South East to come, and with plans afoot to play festivals over the upcoming months, By Polaroid are a band moving from strength to strength.
