By Small Ruin

By Small Ruin is the nom de band for Athens, GA musician, Bryan Mullis. When asked about the origin of the name, Mullis would say that it hints at the fact that its typically not the huge one-time mistakes in life that take us down, but rather the slow bite-by-bite, drink-by-drink, smoke-by-smoke flaws in our nature that finally get the best of us. The good news he is quick to point out is that positive changes in our lives work exactly the same way. In reality, the name is an anagram for his own name.

After graduating with a music degree and spending several years drumming in a number of local Athens and Atlanta bands, Bryan felt the need to pursue something different. He envisioned a project where he could bring to life the many song ideas he had developed on guitar over the years. He called up an engineer friend in town, booked some studio time, and spent the next several months recording the ten tracks on By Small Ruins debut release, Year of the Bull playing every instrument and singing every word.

Currently playing regionally in and around the Athens and Atlanta areas, By Small Ruins live shows features a full line-up made up of some of Mullis long-time musician friends.
