Bio

SITHABISO SIBIYA aka CHRONIZA

On arriving at the scene this young and upcoming rap star began drafting his first rhymes at the age of 15 in his hometown Pietermaritzburg. The name CHRONIZA was inspired by the word “chronic” and this nickname was chosen to depict the rapper’s everlasting fighting spirit, lyrical diversity and ultimately, the impact he could have on his fans and supporters which is chronic. He started out as a bedroom rapper inspired by Hype magazine and artists such as Proverb, Nas, Jay Z and Tupac Shakur. As he continued the art of rap, his lyrical foundation of the industry was inspired by multiple street ciphers and rap sessions with artists who went on to become big local musicians. By attending these rap sessions, CHRONIZA was fortunate enough to catch on the hype at the end of this dying era and was able to incorporate that into the new and upcoming music trends currently in circulation in SA.

This local rapper formed a crew in the years 2010-2011 which was called ‘The Golden Knights’. This rap crew consisted of three members, namely: CHRONIZA, Crazy Boi and Almighty. Their first collaboration “Party night” was a smash hit around the city of PMB and was the first single they had started receiving bookings for. Hereafter, they were booked for Corporate gigs such as the ‘Annual love to live concert’, ‘Miss UMgungundlovu 2010’ and Hip Hop shows like ‘Hip Hop Unleashed’, ‘Hip Hop Invasion’ and ‘Dance 2 inspire’.

However, after one and a half years the crew decided to separate and follow different paths in the music industry. From this point on, CHRONIZA grew as a solo artist and released his first solo single called “Vinyl music” which detubed on Ufm 107.6 and made number two on the charts. After having his single played on Ufm he was interviewed by Visto, the stations in-house Hip Hop dj. Moreover, due to his constant energetic performances, this young rapper performed on many platforms alongside HHP, Cassper Nyovest, Yvonne Chakchaka, Shabalala Rhythms, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Zakwe, and Big Nuz.
His solo performances included shows such as ‘Miss Mnsunduzi 2011’ and ‘Miss UMgungundlovu 2011’, ‘Cop 17 Opening ceremony’, ‘The Annual Zululand music fest (courtesy of Vinyl Entertainment)’, and ‘The Annual  Dance 2 inspire’. Having stated that, it goes without saying that the artists craft is consistent due to the continued bookings as a solo act from shows he had previously performed at with his former crew.

During the first week of July 2012 CHRONIZA  performed at the ‘Southern African Music Conference’ which was highly praised by musical legends Oskido and Greg Moloka, who bought his cd on stage after an exhilarating performance. This then led to an interview with Dj Christos and an on-screen cipher with Zakwe. Moreover, his solo singles got airplay on radio stations such as UFM and Gagasi Fm.

In the year of 2013 during his Matric year, the solo artist did his first television performance on OneKZNTV(Channel 261 DSTV) and in 2014 he released a single from his upcoming EP (Season of the hustler) entitled ‘Next Door’. This single received an immense positive public response and featured Papi Action and Jeejo, produced by KRK Boyz. Moreover, CHRONIZA forms part of this newly esteemed group of artists and producers who are independents in the music industry but often come together for collaborations. ‘Next Door’ had 3700 downloads within a few weeks and is available under ‘Chronic Tabz’ on iTunes and Traxsource. Much like this single, all CHRONIZA’s other singles are available for download under ‘Chronic Tabz’ on iTunes, Traxsource, Amazon, and streaming apps such as Apple Music, Deezer Music and Audiomack. Next Door was selected for the top ten on the UJ FM “Nick Explicit Dropzone”. Hereafter, the artist was featured on Oskido’s Metro FM show ‘Rap activity Jam’ and Tshatha and Rasheed’s show “Cleva ungagiveuphi” on  UKhozi FM. With 2015 coming and going, CHRONIZA is currently working on his follow up single to Next Door and multiple projects with varying artists from Johannesburg, Richard’s Bay and Mafikeng.
