"CA$H AVE OV: “AVE A NICE DAY”"

Ca$h Ave OV comes across as cautious and conservative when it comes to change, and it takes a few spins through his latest EP “Ave A Nice Day” before the differences between it and past records come into focus. But once they do, they cohere into a portrait of an artist in the midst of an aesthetic metamorphosis. Ca$h Ave OV isn’t prone to the kind of daring innovations that have made Kanye a market-dominating giant who drops a zeitgeist-altering product about once a year.

Ca$h Ave OV is more like a niche company that builds devices for hardcore gamers, and offers a larger selection of goods that differ from each other only incrementally, but which aim at satisfying the needs of a more specialist crowd.

And if anything, Ca$h Ave OV has been almost too consistently good at delivering. “Ave A Nice Day” has the lyrics and the punchline frequency, and it’s not short on the Ca$h Ave OV lyrical flows. The bright side is that “Ave A Nice Day’s” best songs are among the best in Ca$h Ave OV catalog.

Probably not coincidentally they also tend to be the ones where Ca$h Ave OV challenges himself the most. On “3 Bandz ft. FAKTZ (Prod. Preme)” and “Do It (Prod. Preme)”, he sounds energetic and loose, hovering weightlessly over the beat. And when he squares off with “Bandz Interlude (Prod. Preme)” and “Liqour Talkin ft. Hue$ (Prod. Preme)”, he is sitting right in the groove.

Technically, the ante is upped even further on “Love Of Money ft. Khari Bernard (Prod. Preme)” and “Hustle Or Broke (Prod. Preme)”, proving that he is one of the most distinctive underground voices in Houston rap.

And considering that there is a run on great rap voices in Houston—Bun B’s crisp baritone, Z-Ro’s bluesy bounce, Scarface’s bellow, that’s one mean feat. Some moments work better than others, but the album feels well sequenced rather than just shuffled.

No doubt Ca$h Ave OV has one of the flat-out best voices in underground hip-hop as a whole. He raps with a guttural sound, yet his flow manages to be silky smooth on almost everything he touches. It’s the kind of voice that can sell any style of hip-hop.

He can be a ruff gangsta rapper, but he can also be socially conscious, and have an emotional side that brings sincerity to his bars. The man has a buttery flow that demands everybody’s attention. Ca$h Ave OV knows he has the skill to carry any kind of track, too, and leaves the best for the last, when he drops the catchy closers “Hustle Or Broke (Prod. Preme)” and “Passenger ft. Hue$ (Prod. Preme)”.

Furthermore “Ave A Nice Day” showcases the fact that Ca$h Ave OV can easily carry a full project by himself. - Rick Jamm

"Ca$h Ave O.V. – “Stay Out the Trap” (Prod. Preme)"

Houston artist Ca$H Ave, details how addicting moving weight can be when he’s making paper in his aggressive new single “Stay Out the Trap”. Whether you’re trapping yourself, at the gym, doing homework, or at a job this is your soundtrack while you go get it. Although this was made to be a street banger with the heavy bass and easy to recite, repetitive hook, Ca$h shows glimpses of his smooth flow at the 00:55 and 1:17 mark. After my 3rd listen I found myself singing along with: “Niggas telling me be safe (why?)/Starting to feel like they plotting/Say they see me coming up (who?)/Now I know them niggas watching/I ain’t worried let em’ look/Let em’ know what it took.”

It’s refreshing to have a Southern rapper without a stop-and-go flow and understandable lyrics in 2017. I’m excited to listen to his new EP “Ave A Nice Day” - Cedd Wilson

"CA$H AVE. O.V. - Flame Emoji 2"

Vocalizing a versatile yet, classic Houston sound, Ca$h Ave. OV is a new brand of southern rap. At the age of 13, DeVaughn Young started rapping in efforts to stay out of trouble in Houston, TX. Rap didn’t become a passion of his until he reached the age of 17 when his brother and close friends were both shot and he realized where the streets would lead him. Now, at the age of 21, OV has evolved into an eclectic rapper with deep Houston roots. Through his lyrical styling and natural flow, OV brings a new vibe to southern rap. Kicking off his career within the past few years, OV has performed at Soul Exposé 1, 2 and 3, Jet Lounge and Warehouse Live. - PJ
