"Torn de nit. (night shift) what the press says"

“Torn de nit” (Night shift) and the Press:

“One of the most personal and unusual artistic formations of the Catalan scene of the
last decade, always in the creative eye of the storm.”
Estebán Linés , La Vanguardia (18/06/2010)

“It smelled of vanilla in the theatre. Only the idea is already worth an empire. But it was
not just a nice tale. A screen offered images of the cookies in their conveyor belts,
falling to be packaged while a voice of an actual worker reminded the music made by the
machine where the slightest variation announced mechanical problems. A worker speaking of music, melody and rhythm, the elements which warned him in its little variation. Four musicians playing as workers. All of them around a machine. A fantastic show.”
Luis Hidalgo, El País (7/03/2010)

“The quartet has constructed a fantastic understandable and absolutely musical and
organic work. The machine they have reconstructed is a beautiful representation of a
cookies factory and a sound factory with schematic lines of string, wind and percussion. The four members of CaboSanRoque demonstrated their ability as multi-instrumentalists in a mixture of spaghetti western , Ry Cooder, chameleon tunes and ballads full of soul.
Anyway, the confirmation of art beyond the machine.”
Estebán Linés , La Vanguardia (19/06/2010)

“The operators of the biscuit factory never thought that the machine that had set the
rhythm for their entire working lives, would become the sound invention of four musicians
loaded with wit and imagination, as crazy pupils of the missed John Lurie´s Lounge
lizards . The musical premises of the band mix both mechanical and organic sounds
achieving results of poetic and warm proximity. A kind of machine with human soul and a
taste of chocolate-filled cookie. “Pere Pons, Avui (20/06/2010) - Resume of many publishers...

"The Mechanical Farm of Cabo San Roque"

The group outdoes themselves with the eerie‘Bestiari’
Tuesday April 16 2013
Cabo San Roque seems less and less like that group who, a decade ago, fantasized with retro songbooks and amuzing instruments. Now they are taking their inventiveness to new limits, where these instruments have an abstract life of their own, the songs are broken up into avant-garde musical pieces, and the notion of history takes priority.Bestiari is their latest and boldest occurence. An ensamble of disturbing escenic presence that the Barcelonian trio displayed in Beckett Hall.

The group reveals to us that Bestiari was born out of their frustration from not being able to create an orchestra of animals (dogs, cats, parrots...) played like Thelonius Monk or Cecil Taylor. That being impossible, understandably, they opted to create them with recycled materials, and filled the stage with strange creatures: mechanical mammals and unclassifiable beings made out of industrial pieces, membranes and skulls whose origin is uncertain. A beautiful artificial henhouse thats brings to life the texts recited by the actress Mònica López on a TV screen. Narrations read in a disturbing tone inspired from Mythology and primitive Christianity stemming from the research done by the German musicologist Marius Schneider.

VIOLENT REALITY / Because Bestiaribreaks the idyllic or friendly view of nature. In its world, the animals are dangerous; they devour eachother and threaten all civilization. And there is no dragon (built with a sort of vacuum tube) who is the bearer of bad omens. A scene of tensions and threats that Cabo San Roque illustrates with unorthodox music, that ranges from the improvization of vanguard rock passing through noise music, concrete music and the singing choir with synthesized rhythm. A delirium in Beckett Hall that kept you on the edge of your seat for 50 minutes until the uproarious ending. Cabo San Roque can’t be controlled. - EL Periódico

"Carles Santos & CaboSanRoque.

Maquinofbiapianolera, K-Industria 2012.
If the programmer of the closest town theater contracts the show don't hesitate to go and see it. You'll discover the unexpected pleasure of being 45 minutes open-mouthed, watching and listening to a dazzling useless machine. A can that beats. N.C. Rockdelux (06/03/2012).

Ball de pistons Selfedited, 2010.

Beyond surprise or curiosity produced by the mechanical orchestras sound discoveries the music unfolded in this record has an overwhelming rhythmic  power on which they build different sound layers as atmospheres of strange harmonic perfection E. L., La Vanguardia (18/06/2010)

Msica a Mquina -  Selfedited, 2008.
The third album of the band is the most complete and amazing in his search of the mediterranean surrealism. Sometimes come near to Nino Rota and also to the most grotesque Tom Waits. The outcome isnt only outlandish, is also minimalist. And delicious.
Fernando Neira. EP3, March 2008.
An unexpected album , a new way of expression who wink at experimental music. Is essentially an abstract work, intuitive and charged of good moments, and good songs.
Jordi Nopca. Mondo Sonoro, February 2008.

Frana Xica G3G Records 2005
This is the second album of this fanfare multi-faceted band in which an iconoclast idea of Folk music is portrayed, deforming traditional music to an unrecognisable stage and drawing their own soundtrack. CaboSanRoque reformulates the most obsolete theories of hybrid music to come up with hand-made musical pieces D.M. Rock Delux. January 2006.

CaboSanRoque G3G Records 2003

Their debut combines cheekiness, imagination, sense of humour and whats best, excellent songs played with peculiar instruments. A lunatic sonority, converting tradition into gleaming surrealism. R.S. La Vanguardia. November 2003.

Bio

Taking
their name from an old transatlantic liner, CaboSanRoque was
born in 2001 and started its playful and evocative musical experiment using home made instruments invented by the
band and made by recycling a large variety of objects from daily life; washing machines, Scalextric, staplers and pieces of used
furniture, most of which were found in the streets of Barcelona
. In
the last few years, the band has been developing their work around the musical and expressive abilities of mechanical instruments. They have collaborated with many international musicians
like Vinicio Capossela, Pascal Comelade, Pierre Bastien, Carles Santos…This will for
experimentation and construction of mechanical sound machines had brought them to
work in three different fields although music is always in the core of every
project.Currently CaboSanRoque
is Roger Aixut and Laia Torrents, musicians and constructors.
