"Cains & Abels - 'Call Me Up'"

This is folk rock, but it's the darker, more daring side of genre. On Call Me Up, Cains & Abels are never afraid to come across as rough around the edges or to veer into the unpleasant or unknown. - Windy City Rock

"Cain & Abels - 'My Life Is Easy'"

I fell in love with 'My Life Is Easy' when I first heard the demo a few months back. You may already know the band from their material on the supreme States Rights label (including their great debut full-length Call Me Up)--and if not, this song is a perfect introduction. It’s from their new album, which is as-yet-unreleased, but I don’t mind telling you that the t-shirt that goes along with this song is damn near the most comfortable shirt I’ve ever worn - The Catbirdseat

"Best Songs of 2009"

My Life is Easy' seems at first too diffuse, not-quite-there, until that moment in the second half when the clutter is just taken away (and slowly, slowly put back in). A filigree of electric guitar, drumroll after drumroll, the title called out before a fanfare of heartfelt rock'n'roll." - Said the Gramophone

"True Stories"

This sounds like a band who spent a lot of time in the lo-fi, heart-on-sleeve indie folk ghetto and got so sick of it they said fuck it and decided to actually go for it, singing stories and playing whatever music made sense in the context of those true stories, regardless of how the sound might be received. The result is a slicker-than-most production and some heavy Neil Young guitar tones holding up Sampson's honest-to-god bellowing about all of the aboves. - City Center - Fred Thomas

Bio

With their new single, "My Life Is Easy", Cains & Abels delivered one of the "Best Songs of 2009" according to Said the Gramaphone. Yet 2010 is looking even brighter for this melodic Chicago band.

Cains & Abels released their debut full-length, Call Me Up (States Rights Records, 2009), a big sounding record that swells and lilts in gorgeous ways while ranging from heartbreaking bombast to humble beauty. It garnered high praise from folks like Said the Gramophone, Fred Thomas and Ryan Catbird.

Since then they've toured the country alongside the likes of LAKE, NOMO and Sam Buck Rosen. They recently entered Engine Music Studios with Neil Strauch (Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Iron & Wine) to record tracks for a new album filled with atmospheric guitar, massive drums, and lead-singer David Sampson's heartfelt and memorable melodies.

As warmly as their first album was recieved, Cains & Abels believe these new songs are easily their best work yet.
