Bio

Caitlin McKechney, mezzo-soprano, is a native of Lake Bluff, IL and a graduate of Northwestern University. Most recently, Caitlin was a Young Artist with Opera Santa Barbara, where she covered Mercedes in Bizet's Carmen and also learned (and performed a number of scenes as) the title role. She was also seen in the title role of Massenet’s Cendrillon (Cinderella) with Intermezzo Opera in West Palm Beach, FL. Other roles include Nancy in Britten’s Albert Herring, The Mother in Stravinsky's Mavra, Meg Page in Verdi’s Falstaff as well as The Witch in Hansel and Gretel. Caitlin was an apprentice with the Sarasota Opera, singing the roles of Cenerentola and Rosina in the Apprentice Artist Scenes program, as well as appearing in the chorus of the main stage operas.

As comfortable on stage in musical theater as in opera, Caitlin was a participant in the Northwestern University Musical Theater Program under the direction of Dominic Missimi. Favorite musical theater roles include Lilli Vanessi/Kate in Kiss Me Kate, the Witch in Into the Woods, Mama Euralie in Once on This Island and the Mistress in Evita. Caitlin also toured Graz, Austria in the musical theater review “The Great American Musical.”

Caitlin is a frequent concert performer, having sung with Holy Name Cathedral, Trinity United Methodist Church and Winnetka Covenant church, frequently a soloist in many works including Handle’s Messiah and the Durufle Requiem. She has also be privileged to work with a number of composers including Larry Alan Smith and Eric V. Hachikian. She premiered Mr. Hachikian’s 5 Armenian Songs in both Ann Arbor Michigan and Chicago.

When not singing, Caitlin loves to draw and paint and has even shown her work in local Chicago galleries in Wicker Park.
