“ Beautiful playing, fine tunes, simple inviting evocative words… they’ve a sense of fun, a touch of wickedness… Modern life and folk and timeless traditions and everything good here.” The Organ

‘One of the most exciting live bands I have seen’ Subba-Cultcha

Born in Norwich in 2007, Cakes and Ale experimented with different line-ups and genres before settling on their current arrangement. They are now spread between London and Bristol and feature banjo, guitar, saw, violin, accordion and double bass.

Cakes and Ale received an Arts Council grant in 2011 to record their 16 track debut album, "Five Shillings, Three Bushels of Corn and a Milchgoat" which they recorded at The Mill studio in Norfolk with Jonny Cole.

In the seven years since forming Cakes and Ale's live performances on street corners, at beer festivals and pagan weddings across the country have gained them a cult following. They have toured Germany, Poland and Czech Republic and made a summer tour of UK festivals in 2011 and 2012. They have been booked to play at several more for summer 2013.

Here is a selection of gigs Cakes and Ale have played in Britain:
