"Celtic / Folk / Gaelic / Roots Reviews,"

"(Scotland) A Part of Me - a refreshing mixture of new songs, most of them written by Cal, with love and deep feeling for people and surroundings. The range of emotions inspired by this CD is many fold. It will get any exile weeping for home and evoke pride and loyalty in a true Scot. The Lost Days is sung with wistfulness for the lost days of childhood, In A New Light gives out a feeling of light and happiness to be back home. The backing of guitar, electronic pipes, keyboards, whistle, accordion and bagpipes give a varied taste to this CD. It is good to see some new and interesting work appearing on the scene."

"Listen to This, by Alasdair MacLean:"

" In the album A Part of Me, Cal, or Michael Callaghan to give him his full name, prefaces the title with the word 'Scotland', a splendid sentiment with which I cannot argue. Singer-songwriter Cal, from Grangemouth, offers a selection of self-penned numbers, unashamedly Scottish in ethos - longing, exile, battles long ago, love of Caledonia - all strongly presented in a way that makes a definite statement but stops short of actually being in your face. Actually, Cal's delivery is such that at times it is easy to imagine I was listening to Elvis, but against that, I don't think there's any record of Elvis singing in Gaelic. Striking, not to say arresting, tracks from a confident artist with a lot to be confident about, as can be heard from the audience response to one track recorded live, which happens to be Green Grow the Rashes O. We all know who wrote that, of course, and I can't help thinking that he would be quite at home with the way Cal puts it across on this collection."

"by Julie Currie"

" A singer who has made a name for himself in the pubs and clubs has released his third album. Michael Callaghan, better known to his legions of fans as Cal, has gone back to his Celtic roots in (Scotland) A Part Of Me. It starts strongly and never fails to deliver on a promise. The Celtic rock numbers are balanced with a couple of thought-provoking ballads, which will have immigrants flying across the oceans home. For your money, the real winners on the album are Distant Pipers, In Her Mother Tongue, Green Grow The Rashes O', the title track - (Scotland) A Part Of Me - and Passion For The Homelands. But for Celtic music fans, there really are no losers on what is an exceptional third album from a true local talent."

"By Alisdair MacLean"

Calling You is the latest album from Cal, he being Michael Callaghan from Grangemouth.
Here he largely showcases his own work, with some though-provoking themes with a dominant thread of a love of Scotland (full marks there, obviously!) as well as one or two trad tracks – “Ae Fond Kiss”, for instance, and a couple of Gaelic songs too: “Chi Mi’n Geamhradh” (I See Winter) and “A’ Chailin Alain” (O Beautiful Girl) a pretty universal theme.
Once again an album well worth waiting for – his last one to pass through my hands, Scotland A Part Of Me was in 2001. On this showing, lets hope we don’t have to wait another three years for the next CD.
