The crowd at The Saturday Sessions last night were treated to something special (No its not me I'm talking about). Last night The saturday Sessions was host to two fantastic bands in the from of The Murder of Crows & Caldestino. "Whats new?" I hear you ask "Doesn't The Saturday Sessions always have great bands?". Well that is true but these bands were special and alot of people witnessed it!
Caldestino were up first and depite appearing nervous during the sound check they stood up and delivered a brilliant performance. I had expected great thing from them when I heard their cd last week and i can say that they didn't disappoint! Upon finishing their set they were greated by huge rounds of applause and requests for an encore - I even said on the mic that that had to have been one of the best applauses a band has gotten on The Saturday Sessions. Since forming in late 2005, Caldestino have now assembled a solid set list of around 10 original songs, and recorded 2 demos, the 2nd of which was completed in may 2007. The first demo was produced by Chris O' Brien, whose CV includes Something Happens, Whipping Boy and The Stunning, at The Production Suite Dublin.
The second was recorded with a slightly less produced sound at Jealoustown Studio, Co Meath.
Caldestino's set has been road tested and refined in venues around Dublin such as Eamonn Doran's, The Sugar Club, Radio City and Temple Bar Music Centre, as well as The Underground in Carlow and Cleere's in Kilkenny. At this stage the average set contains 10 songs, with some tunes being discarded to make way for more superior new ones.
At present Caldestino are working on promoting the latest recordings at gigs, radio stations and myspace, the later of which has proved an invaluable medium of networking and promoting the music.
