Bio

An African-American female from the middle class of Los Angeles, California and an unfortunate victim of pain. Calix did not fall victim to drugs, prostitution or gangs. She instead turned to the music of New Edition, Whitney Houston, Prince, Tevin Campbell, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, BabyFace, Michael & Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Bread, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Phil Collins, Tracy Chapman and later Boyz II Men, 3T and Sarah McLachlan. She began to sing before she could speak and penned her first song at the tender age of 10. Joined many girl groups without success. Praised because of her exceptional voice but banned because of her darker skin, conservative demeanor and innocent child-like looks. She decided to single herself out and market herself as a solo artist.

Attempts at obtaining a record deal failed her due to the overwhelming influences of artists such as Whitney Houston, Brandy, Monica and Aaliyah who were popular in the music industry during her teenage years. She did not fit in with them because she was deemed not model thin and not a multi-genre songwriter. So she waited years for the face of music to change and allow her a place. Unfortunately, the music industry had become far more saturated than she had expected. Artists with meager vocal abilities and no writing skills were continuously signed to major labels. Suddenly, looks mattered more than ever and music mattered even less.

Life then took hold of her and she was forced to focus only on it. Music took a back seat. In that time she was hurt, abused and misused so that she developed writer’s block over a 5 year period not desiring to write more and more sad or hurt filled songs. She decided if she would write again it would be to inspire the youth of the world to be themselves and that there is more than one way to be. Telling her story and hopefully strengthening their self-esteem, helping them to recognize abuse and stop it in its tracks. Thus, the Adolescence Of A July Baby debut album concept is born.

Looking upon the faces of the members of male group 3T she suddenly put pen to paper and before she knew it had penned 200+ songs within a 6 month time span including tracks intended for her debut album. Alternative, R & B, Rock, Folk, Country, Christmas, Pop, Hip Hop and even Metal songs flowed from her soul without strain. The songs were well received by all who read them. She received a finalist award certificate from VH1's SongOfTheYear.com for her song Twisting In Time as well as an Honorbale Mention in American Songrwiter Magazine for her song Hustlin' vs. Incarceration. These simple yet complex words. People felt that their lives had been literally touched in a special way because of these words. So, she decided to give it one last try. Still young and still hungry she gives it one last try to change the lives of children and adults just by living her own righteously. This is her era. A Verbal Era. A new sound is born. Alternative R & B has arrived within her lyrics and riffs.

A new face is born.

A new voice.
