Calvados

Calvados is a construction of lyricism and energy. The addictive hooks of pop and the unnerving force of rock. A singer-songwriter's intimacy charged with an explicit sexuality. The pop song delivered with the visceral performativity of rock.

Biography

Calvados was born ten years ago, towards the latter years of elementary school, when Beam Bysshe and Lev Lewis began writing and singing as a duo. "Big Hairy Monster", "Jolly Times", "The Squirrel Song"; these were the humble compositions of two cheerful, young musicians.

A couple of years later and Orlando, Beam's brother and Sam, a friend, have woven their way into the group's fabric. The band, now outfitted with the most classic of classic rock line-ups, two guitars plus bass and drums, begin to play throughout their high-school's social scene and onwards. Performances at high-school haunts like The Kathedral, Reilly's and The El Mocambo to venues such as The Opera House, The Mod Club, The Supermarket, Rancho Relaxo, The Central and more.

Pop has the connotation of "poppy", but Calvados is fascinated by the prospect of taking the melodies, hooks and conventions that define pop music and shuffling it around with the lyricism, structure and viewpoints of differing genres. The songs are wordy, catchy, perhaps exciting. The result of taking the sexuality of Prince, Pulp, Madonna or Bowie and imprinting it upon modern indie rock.

A Picture Of Urban Sprawl

Written By: L. Lewis

like a safehouse rusting over on a pretty little street
you've got long hair always cold hand
sit with cops and watch tv
she drinks softly from a tin cup
dries the surface of a ledge
hands maneuver over old stains
sits down on the piano bench

settled years past never quickly
opened window broke the cold
hidden from view
grown up shadows ascending out of reach
daily trips to bargain shopping
drawn up lists of daily needs
rolled up stocking struggled daily
safer than i could have hoped

sound of the whole wide world
i know i tore wide the whole wide world
sound of the whole wide world
i know i tore wide the whole wide world

If I

Written By: L. Lewis

if i caught right up
your some contractions
if i was enough

this is the storm that i was talking about
this is the part that i had mentioned
this is the lie that i was running from

was it i who you mentioned
was i right for your dimensions
was it i who you mentioned
was i right for you

i know your body
maybe i know it too well
maybe i should learn another
maybe you were the one
maybe you were the one

was it i who you mentioned
was i right for your dimensions
was it i who you mentioned
was i right for your dimensions
was there time for your intentions
just a line on the ground
did it fix all your conventions
if i

Up In Smoke

Written By: L. Lewis

i take my shift off but no one can know
i take a quick walk discovered your note

and everything i've known is going up in smoke

i can't keep going on with nothing to show
a man keeps his heart strung out and torn

and what's that i've done
one piece left hanging on
but when i shift the door a screw comes out

a slip of the tongue i hope you'll forgive
define to me what's wrong because i've nothing more to give

and everything i've known is going up in smoke
