"Banda Calvet plays alternative rock in English in "Brasília Independent" program"

Group has influence of bands like Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys.
Lyrics explore existentialism; Music presented today is 'Slow Down'.

With the proposal of playing alternative rock in English, the band Calvet is the first attraction of the 6th Edition of “Brasilia Independente” (Brasilia independent), a panel of DFTV and G1 that opens space for independent musicians from Brasilia to showcase their work. The group participated with the song "Slow Down".

The name of the band is inspired by the French artist Jean Marc Calvet. The members are Rodrigo Meneses (Digão) and Neto Gondin, both guitarists and vocalists, bassist Raoni Barros and drummer Marcio Sena.

"The band shows up in 2012, when I and the other vocalist, Neto, joined our ideas and accepted the challenge of compose in English," says Digão. According to him, the intention was to participate in festivals in Europe, the United States and Canada.

With influences from Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkey and Queens of the Stone Age, Calvet released the first EP, "Whatever makes you free", in the year its foundation. In 2013, the group focused on composing and recording singles. The latest work was released last year, "A spotless night."

Calvet's work is all authorial. According to Digão, the lyrics are a catalyst for the way of life in the capital. "It's the escape valve. It’s about how you live in Brasilia, this guides a lot the lyrics a lot. There are things involving arguments, a troubled environment, there are existentialist, even romantic letters. "

The group considers Brasilia Independente (this program) as an opportunity to publicize the work to an audience that may be interested in the band's work. "The scene for authorial bands is limited. "Pocket Show - Calvet"

Alternative / indie rock Brasilia band formed later on 2011. The name is a tribute to French self-taught artist Jean Marc Calvet, who gave up the idea of ending his monotonous life after discovering his talent for painting. The members of the band Calvet, think the music they play represents a refuge from the dull and monotonous routine of Brasilia.

CALVET is an indie rock band formed in 2012 by two songwriters from Brasília, Brazil, Rodrigo Meneses and Neto Gondim, who knew each other from previous bands from the underground/hc local scene. CALVET shared stages with great Brazilian bands such as Raimundos, Supercombo, Scalene and its debut EP, Whatever Makes You Free, received great attention from the local indie scene. Their most recent EP, Redphant will be released in March 2017 and brings high doses of a positive mood in an indomitable sound with melodic vocals, distorted guitars and a fancy trombone. 

The band have participated in major Brazilian festivals such as Porão do Rock and Grito Rock, besides having won the audience of the alternative scenario of the Brazilian capital, receiving more than 50 thousand votes in the TV Show, Brasília Independente, from Globo TV (Brazil’s largest TV Station). CALVET was also selected as one of the most influent Brazilian rock bands that writes and sings in English, being included in the Tomarock collection by the South American radio station, Transmérica. At the moment, the band is focused on producing new music videos and setting dates for touring in South America.
