A Losing Game

Written By: Calvin Brabant

I thought I’d crush that ball every time down the line
Make it to second or maybe even third if I was given the sign
My wife was watching in the stands bearing my ring on her left hand
She smiled so sweet at me as we were up by three in the bottom of the ninth
But with bases loaded the crowd exploded as Sammy smacked a grand slam

It was a losing game
That I thought I had already won
And after everything was all said and done
My wife whispered “Winning doesn’t mean anything unless you lose some”
Sometimes you have to lose some

After the game I was tired so I relaxed and put up my feet
When I had received a call from our bank down on twenty second street
My wife was watching from the kitchen while cooking our evening meal
The man replied “This is Sammy, great game tonight, unfortunately I have some bad news...
You were outbid on that lovely ranch house tomorrow they’ll be sealing the deal

It was a losing game
That I thought I had already won
And after everything was all said and done
My wife whispered “Winning doesn’t mean anything unless you lose some”
Sometimes you have to lose some

It was the next day and we had taken our children down to the park to fool around
I pushed them on the swings and spun them on the merry go’ round
My wife was watching from the park bench blowing kisses which I confidently caught
And as we were ready to leave, we ran into her ex from back when she was about twenty three
He said he wished he had done things differently while congratulating me
I pulled him aside and left him with a final thought

Love is a losing game
And when you think you’ve already won
After everything’s all said and done
I whispered to him “Winning doesn’t mean anything unless you lose some,
Sometimes you have to lose some”

Whistling Memories And Picking Dreams

Written By: Calvin Brabant

I said I'd do things differently in the morning when I wake
There's a lot I forget and a lot of chances left to take
I find myself writing the same old song it seems
And so I keep whistling memories and picking dreams

At the root of it, you know there's a girl and a love gone bad
There's an empty bed and a cemetary of dreams I once had
I find myself writing the same old songs with the same old themes
And so I keep whistling memories and picking dreams

In the key of loneliness all tears have been shed
There's not a thought in my mind I couldn't keep in my head
Though my heart's a disaster I'm chasing after a new tune
I'll be shooting down stars and untying the moon

I said I'd do things differently but the truth is I haven't yet
I haven't got a plan and my fingers do the same scavenging frets
I find myself writing the same old songs in the same old jeans
And so I keep whistling memories and picking dreams

In the key of loneliness all tears have been shed
There's not a thought in my mind I couldn't keep in my head
Though my heart's a disaster I'm chasing after a new tune
I'll be shooting down stars and untying the moon

Country (Rock Three Chords)

Written By: Calvin Brabant

Beth's sittin' cross-legged way over yonder near Mr. Benson's pond
Strummin' her cedar top with the wind blowin' her locks of blonde
I've casted my rod there's no takers to reel sippin' soda waitin' on a bite
Beth's lookin' like her mom more every day and sounds more like her every night

Beth says, "Daddy, I think I heard mommy,
Whisper from the moon, cheering on me!"
She's right up there next to the good Lord
Saying, "It sounds like country, country, country
But you sure know how to rock three chords!"
"It sounds like country, country, country
But you sure know how to rock three chords!"

Born Sheryl Benson and when she passed away the stone etched Sheryl Monroe
We had our first date skating on her father's pond covered with a dust of snow
She gave Beth her Seagull S6 and taught her three chords in the family of country roots
Beth strums "Strawberry Wine" her mom's favorite kickin' around in her cowgirl boots

Singing, "Daddy, I think I heard mommy,
Whisper from the moon, cheering on me!"
She's right up there next to the good Lord
Saying, "It sounds like country, country, country
But you sure know how to rock three chords!"
"It sounds like country, country, country
But you sure know how to rock three chords!"

I thank the Lord every night for leaving me a piece of my elegant wife Sheryl
She's witty and kind like her mom and quicker to give than a bullet through a barrel
Beth plays every country song she knows and turns them into an edgier rock
I don't question her playing style, but she tells me so mommy can hear from her Heaven's block

She says, "Daddy, I think I heard mommy,
Whisper from the moon, cheering on me!"
She's right up there next to the good Lord
Saying, "It sounds like country, country, country
But you sure know how to rock three chords!"
"It sounds like country, country, country!"
"But you sure know how to rock three chords!"

Don't Make Hearts Like They Use To

Written By: Calvin Brabant

High on some reverend words preachin' forgiveness
Prayin' to the church within mindin' your own business
Dusting off dusty words from a dusty book
Reading them aloud a good heart is easily overlooked

You thought you've seen it all
Thought you could stand proud, just stand tall
They don't make hearts like they use to
No, they don't make hearts like they use to

One more poet down with words still on fire
Drowning thoughts in the lake where he drew to inspire
He's fished much wisdom from the syndrome of broken hearts
In the bleeding there's paintings of futuristic fine arts

You thought you've seen it all
Thought you could stand proud, just stand tall
They don't make hearts like they use to
No, they don't make hearts like they use to

Early come fall early be it a winter's chill
A heart chiseling memories with a bent quill
You've saved yourself once be it twice the same
Still you've never learned to play love like it's a game

You thought you've seen it all
Thought you could stand proud, just stand tall
They don't make hearts like they use to
No, they don't make hearts like they use to

Too Much To Drink About

Written By: Calvin Brabant

Her memory refuses to die, I'm holding flowers in my heart
Looks like another whiskey night hoppin' the bars
Thoughts burning in my mind roaring loud
There's just too much to drink about

Friend's got a birthday I buy'em a High Life hanging my head low
Looks like a tequila chasin' night salted tears and lime in my throat
My heart's lost a beat not dancing with the crowd
There's just too much to drink about

Give me a beer, give me a shot
Give me anything until I've forgot
How much it hurts, how hard it breaks
Oh how many drinks will it take?
I guess there's nothing strong enough to serve
For this heart of mine to forget about her

There's a band playing tonight covering some old tunes
My buddies said "There's a girl down here to meet you better get here soon"
So I had a change of heart feeling proud
There's just too much to drink about

Give me a beer, give me a shot
Give me the night, give me all it's got
Show me some fun, show me some raves
Oh how many drinks will it take?
I guess it doesn't take much to get a buzz
And starting feeling a little more like I was

Her memory finally died, so I planted the flowers from my heart
Looks like a vodka seven night just me and my scars
"I'm feelin' alright" like Joe Cocker I shout
There's always too much to drink about

My Dream Boat

Written By: Calvin Brabant

Recounting sheep because I can't sleep
But they keep jumping a fence crossing your street
Maybe I'll sheer their fluffy coats
And knock you off the cruise of my dream boat

It's nice to hold you but not in my mind
Still can't swim, but you should see how high I've climbed
You boulder my heart, I boulder your preserver take note
Cause I'm gonna knock you off the cruise of my dream boat

The waves wash my heart from view
I'm the captain in control not you
I'm the skipper skippin' memories of us
God knows how long I've been in your cuffs
I'm gonna steer this windjammer into unknown sails
And ride the current high and see what prevails

Now I'm catching z's instead of you's
Letting go of yesterdays and starting brand new
Every song about your eyes like the sea I rewrote
And knocked you off the cruise of my dream boat

Picture's Taking Me

Written By: Calvin Brabant

Your smile's sharp, you're lookin' good in that purple shirt
Gosh, that was years ago how can my heart still hurt?
If you could only see,
Where this picture's taking me

Must have been a holiday, we were wrapped in cheer
Somewhere we closed our hearts and it disappeared
My eyes a little watery,
Where this picture's taking me

This pretty frame
Outlines the pain
Makes me sad
But makes me glad
Because I was happy,
Where this picture's taking me

Our days are done and life goes on
Like death we are so young to dwell upon
Now I have lyrics to a song with certainty,
You should see where this picture's taking me

Fish All Day

Written By: Calvin Brabant

I got the bait my heart on the end of the pole
The line spools somewhere through my soul
I'm lookin' for the right spot for the pickin'
Today, I'm gonna do some fishin'

Fish all day hope I get a bite
Fish away until the moonlight
Oh heart don't fail me now
Fishin' from a kettle of a different crowd
I don't mind if they put up a fight
Fish all day as long as I get a bite

The first cast I got a nibble but she let go
I guess hearts like mine are foreign around these pond holes
The next one bit hard and bent my hook
I had her in my hands for a second and away she shook

Fish all day hope I get a bite
Fish away until the moonlight
Oh heart don't fail me now
Fishin' from a kettle of a different crowd
I don't mind if they put up a fight
Fish all day as long as I get a bite

They say there's plenty of fish in the sea
Maybe I should change the bait they'd start noticing me
Start fishin' with green pockets and buy a hefty truck
Start casting lies and reeling in a bunch of muck
But that's not me I'm way too kind
Maybe I'll try another piece of my heart and a piece of my mind

Fish all day hope I get a bite
Fish away until the moonlight
Oh heart don't fail me now
Fishin' from a kettle of a different crowd
I don't mind if they put up a fight
Fish all day as long as I get a bite

Whiskey Heart And A Beer Drinking Mind

Written By: Calvin Brabant

I'm not really counting the beers, but it's five I think
Bartender slides me a shot of Southern, cracks another beer with a wink
He says, "I know you're down and you just wanna have a good time,
But ain't nothin' stronger gonna cripple you than a whiskey heart
and a straight beer drinking mind"

I threw'em a buck and stuck a twenty in the music box
I don't give a damn at the moment, ain't ready for these talks
He says, "I know you ain't ready and you just wanna have a good time,
But ain't nothin' stronger gonna cripple you than a whiskey heart
and a straight beer drinking mind"

I thumbed the selections of musical taste
Threw back a shot with a smile on my face
Something about a sad song makes you feel better when you're down
Makes you feel like you're not alone when the feelin' hits close to town
Be I crippled for a night leavin' everything behind
With a whiskey heart and a straight beer drinking mind

The music blarin' twistin' and turnin' my heart
And repeats the sequence as soon as the next song starts
He says, "You know I'm only trying to help, I know you wanna have a good time,
But ain't nothin' stronger gonna cripple you than a whiskey heart
and a straight beer drinking mind"

Thumbin' the selections of musical taste
Throwin' back shots with a smile on my face
Something about a sad song makes you feel better when you're down
Makes you feel like you're not alone when the feelin' hits close to town
Be I crippled for a night leavin' everything behind
With a whiskey heart and a straight beer drinking mind

Cheaper By The Dozen

Written By: Calvin Brabant

I'm feeling like a Saturday night my check's been cashed
Stumbling into Backyard Jacks already a little smashed
Three fifty for a beer I exclaim neck veins bloodin'
Willie's station around the corner sells them cheaper by the dozen

Fill me up one I guess and please hand me a menu
That home cooking is makin' my alcohol want some food
Four ninety-five for a couple eggs my eyes were buzzin'
Willie's station around the corner sells them cheaper by the dozen

And I'm thinkin' about the roses
A box full of chocolate glazed doughnuts
The pens and the pencils and early mornin' time
An evening to write what's been on my mind
The clock hands have been spinnin' like a pinwheel
Midnight's struck and I can't make up how I feel
Do I turn into an apology and crash her bed
Or drown the night in my heart and forget what I said?

Still feeling like a Saturday night my check's almost gone
I pretend she's here right now I want to play our song
Three dollars for a play next my mouth was cussin'
Willie's station around the corner sells them cheaper by the dozen

Summer Nights Of Twenty-Five

Written By: Calvin Brabant

True-blue friend in a blue button down shirt
I've pinned my heart on my sleeve watch it work
I know you have your life and I have mine
Things changing but ain't no time like the old-time

Go back to them summer nights of twenty-five
Foot on the pedal heavy metal engine alive
Gasoline in our veins motors never ran dry
Never backed down pistons open wide
Hearts pumping in overdrive
Wishing for them summer nights of twenty-five

I had a hairline and you had a hair up your ass
I was idling slow trying to keep up with your life hard and fast
The truth is I wouldn't change a thing gears still turning
We were a party on wheels memory's smoke keeps burning

Go back to them summer nights of twenty-five
Foot on the pedal heavy metal engine alive
Gasoline in our veins motors never ran dry
Never backed down pistons open wide
Hearts pumping in overdrive
Wishing for them summer nights of twenty-five

I pulled out the drive and sparked my lighter
Burned my soul and set my heart on fire
Somewhere there's pieces of me in you and you in me
And that's really all we need

To go back to them summer nights of twenty-five
Foot on the pedal heavy metal engine alive
Gasoline in our veins motors never ran dry
Never backed down pistons open wide
Hearts pumping in overdrive
Wishing for them summer nights of twenty-five

Truth Of My Identity

Written By: Calvin Brabant

I have time to watch over me put it in my hands
The glass is broken wind blows the sands
I think I've pinched enough for an hour

I have question marks in my eyes where I have plans
The road is broken rocks and cardiograms
I think I've packed my heart full of gunpowder

I line my sights to the left because the right's always wrong
I'm picking on the weakest choice because it's made me strong
Made friends with time for it's he who is the enemy
Wagered the devil to find the truth of my identity

I have love to watch over me put it in my heart watch it expand
It's not really broken anymore it just cries for another chance
I think I'm guilty of under minding it's power

I have open hearted eyes a little more they understand
That things are never broken it's just the way they are planned
A choice like a flower we pick the color

I line my sights to the left because the right's always wrong
I'm picking on the weakest choice because it's made me strong
Made friends with time for it's he who is the enemy
Wagered the devil to find the truth of my identity

Leaving Levi (Fingers In The Wind)

Written By: Calvin Brabant

His wife emptied her drawers and ruffled the bed
Messing up the spot where she laid her head
Said she had to go somewhere with the likes of Hollywood
It's not your heart she said busting it where he stood

She was leaving Levi that day
Waved and went on her way
The sun was shining but it felt like night
Maybe he won't miss her, maybe he might
Fingers in the wind all to say
She was leaving Levi that day

His daughter was packing her bags along with the life he knew
She was wearing a revealing dress, he looks at her like she's still two
She said she was going to college over in California town
It's not you she said busting his smile into a frown

She was leaving Levi that day
Waved and went on her way
The sun was shining but it felt like night
Maybe he won't miss her, maybe he might
Fingers in the wind all to say
She was leaving Levi that day

His mom was laughing and joking on the other end of the line
She said son don't worry so much everything's gonna be fine
She said she had to let him go for now
Keep your head up anyway you know how

And the organ piped his throat the morning she died
Memories flung with every note and he cried
Heart water pouring from his eyes
He never got any better at goodbyes

She was leaving Levi that day
Waved and went on her way
The sun was shining but it felt like night
Maybe he won't miss her, maybe he might
Fingers in the wind all to say
She was leaving Levi that day

When Upon Her I Came

Written By: Calvin Brabant

A crowded mouth and hair that smelled nice
Sweet perfume and eyes that were tone
Right up that aisle I had to look twice
Maybe it was a manly instinct, maybe just my own

And then upon her I came
Her eyes of turquoise readily aimed
I thought I heard her talking to me, I started to tear
Turns out she couldn't see nor could she hear
She was rockin' my eyes stone-deaf
My heart battlin' the bones of my chest
I didn't mind, I'm not ashamed
She brought beauty before me when upon her I came

Long legs the sun painted brown
Cut off shorts and a tank top white
The way she stood could easily wipe a frown
She said it all with a smile a lip to bite

And then upon her I came
Her eyes of turquoise readily aimed
I thought I heard her talking to me, I started to tear
Turns out she couldn't see nor could she hear
She was rockin' my eyes stone-deaf
My heart battlin' the bones of my chest
I didn't mind, I'm not ashamed
She brought beauty before me when upon her I came

Dear Lord, I hope it's not a sin
To fall in love with one of those mannequins

And then upon her I came
Her eyes of turquoise readily aimed
I thought I heard her talking to me, I started to tear
Turns out she couldn't see nor could she hear
She was rockin' my eyes stone-deaf
My heart battlin' the bones of my chest
I didn't mind, I'm not ashamed
She brought beauty before me when upon her I came

Golf Swings

Written By: Calvin Brabant

When the weather's nice and everybody's feelin' a change
My buddies and I grab some clubs and head to the range
It's not about form or accuracy, it's the laughs it's the little things
It's not about the drive but what's in between the golf swings

Dan, he makes me proud thinkin' maybe one day he'll try nine holes
Kurt's probably got the best stroke but keeps talkin' about how crappy he bowls
Matt's got life on the green all figured out wearin' some fingering rings
It's not about the drive but what's in between the golf swings

We could rent a cart
But it wouldn't be as much fun
We could keep a score chart
But it doesn't really matter who won
We're grateful if we par we feel like kings
It's not about the drive but what's in between the golf swings

I know it's been a while since we've played a round on the grassly green
Eight hours burning up the heat of the day star without any sunscreen
It's not about how good or how bad, who loses or who wins
It's not about the drive but what's in between the golf swings

We could rent a cart
But it wouldn't be as much fun
We could keep a score chart
But it doesn't really matter who won
We're grateful if we par we feel like kings
It's not about the drive but what's in between the golf swings

Some Names On Some Tags

Written By: Calvin Brabant

Freedom, oh freedom the taste is on our mind, the scent that sails
From a ship, to a plane, to calloused feet boots treading trails
We're honored to swallow a breath and bow to the brave
The one's whose hearts, lungs, and souls are sewn to the color of our flags

Soldiers, oh soldiers your hearts have eyes, the touch of hardihood
From land, to sea, and to air your pride and flair like sweet cherrywood
We've only a knowlege that we pledge to your allegiance in loyal wags
The one's who are sisters, brothers, fathers and mothers, hero's not heard in mags

How do we give respect and wring our heart's of guilt?
Some haven't lifted a finger since our country's been built
We give our hearts in thank you in the scenarios you were dealt
But it's almost like it's cliche' and the thoughtfulness is never felt

That lunch we had the other day at a restuarant of fancy food
Or the bar we mingled at trying samples of beer freshly brewed
All while you drank canteen water and ate your meal from bags
We cried when we watched the news,
Because the battle for freedom isn't just some names on some tags

Unring Her Finger

Written By: Calvin Brabant

Beyond the burning neon bulbs inside the bar's dim
There's a beautiful blue dress, baby blue eyes and a darling body
The summer sun's kissed her skin
She's quicker than the liquor to make your head spin

You can't unring the bells and unthink the thinker
Undrink the drink that made you think of unringing her finger
The night's an artist the hardest love to draw
Stuck between diamonds and a don who won what your heart saw
You can't unsing the song like a careless country singer
Undrink the drink that made you think of unringing her finger

Fighting the temptation the taste of friendship better on your mind
There's still a blue dress, baby blue eyes that sigh your heart
The summer sun sure picked an angel to shine
Love sure feels closer than you were hoping to find

You can't unring the bells and unthink the thinker
Undrink the drink that made you think of unringing her finger
The night's an artist the hardest love to draw
Stuck between diamonds and a don who won what your heart saw
You can't unsing the song like a careless country singer
Undrink the drink that made you think of unringing her finger

He's got what you would prefer
God send an angel just like her
Two sinners don't make a win
God send an angel like the one with him

You can't unring the bells and unthink the thinker
Undrink the drink that made you think of unringing her finger
The night's an artist the hardest love to draw
Stuck between diamonds and a don who won what your heart saw
You can't unsing the song like a careless country singer
Undrink the drink that made you think of unringing her finger

Anybody Else's Arms

Written By: Calvin Brabant

The cigarette burning could not cover the sultry scent between your legs
I cannot forgive myself darling, open a window but beauty still begs
Eyes of bourbon like liquor charred my bloodstream in crimson flame
On bended knee, I did not hide behind love the night without warning still came

In stranger's air guided down darkened hall my memory's retraced
Lyrics rippled on boney spine the words from your mouth I can taste
If that's the spot right there darling, I do not want to die alone
I don't want to die in anybody else's arms but yours and my own

Our eyes meet upon crackcrow hour, your eyelashes tickle my nose
Greeting each other bare minded, naked souls and entirely clothed
Kiss me darling, kiss me on lips of paternal prowl hasten not
Pull the dagger from my heart and wipe it bloody in a lover's lot

Hold me still and wash my heart of memories pine
Kiss me darling, kiss me drunk with lips of wine
If that's the spot right there darling, I do not want to die alone
I don't want to die in anybody else's arms but yours and my own

Blind Pilot

Written By: Calvin Brabant

On the wings of some words a singer singing his life
Some girl left his mind in Arkansas and trapped his heart too
Well, I don't live there and probably never will
I can hear the truth ringing in that guitar and it gives me chills

My heart went on tour, my mind a blind pilot
Away from a crowd that kidnapped all that is quiet
Silence I rang, the bells were not heard
And the music spoke when the words were blurred
Slouched to the hills and the sun cast rays violet
My heart went on tour, my mind a blind pilot

The guitar took me back to a time where them lyrics hang
Some girl emptied my mind and scrapped my heart
Well, it's over now somehow have to unbuild the love still
I can hear the truth ringing in that guitar and it gives me chills

My heart went on tour, my mind a blind pilot
Away from a crowd that kidnapped all that is quiet
Silence I rang, the bells were not heard
And the music spoke when the words were blurred
Slouched to the hills and the sun cast rays violet
My heart went on tour, my mind a blind pilot

Some songs get you thinking, but you know all too well
That your mind can't keep away the memories your heart has held
Well, maybe you don't want to remember maybe you will
When you hear a song that just won't keep you still

My heart went on tour, my mind a blind pilot
Away from a crowd that kidnapped all that is quiet
Silence I rang, the bells were not heard
And the music spoke when the words were blurred
Slouched to the hills and the sun cast rays violet
My heart went on tour, my mind a blind pilot

Hit And Run On My Heart

Written By: Calvin Brabant

Burnt-sienna her hair showered in lavender wild
Jaded windows to her soul with a milky white smile
Should of known disaster would strike my passion
Read her signals right but the night's back flashin'

Hit and run on my heart
Headlights shut me down
She had a beauty believe me
It ain't worth waiting around
She came quickly and tread her mark
Just a hit and run on my heart

Shook her shameless attitude and sugar words
Picked up pieces of my heart scattered on the curb
Saw her the next night and braved my temptation
Cuss my mind it should be a crime written in citation

Hit and run on my heart
Headlights shut me down
She had a beauty believe me
It ain't worth waiting around
She came quickly and tread her mark
Just a hit and run on my heart

Beauty's such a powerful observation
I find myself flirting with flirtation
This broke down heart still fueling the gauges
For the feeling, the feeling of being weightless

Hit and run on my heart
Headlights shut me down
She had a beauty believe me
It ain't worth waiting around
She came quickly and tread her mark
Just a hit and run on my heart

Zooey Deschanel Eyes From Gas Alley Pub

Written By: Calvin Brabant

She walked right in and took over the jukebox and pool table
John Prine "In Spite Of Ourselves" played three times that's no fable
She racked them balls and was dancing with her honey
I sat onlooking with my eyes all runny

Goodbye memories, goodbye bottle of blues
Hello sweet song, hello sweet lady who's
Got black tide hair and walking snub
The girl with Zooey Deschanel eyes from Gas Alley Pub

The game was final, I don't think she won
Puffing her lips and sticking out her tongue
Her and her honey made their way to my end of the bar
She asked me who broke my heart and left me with such a scar

Goodbye memories, goodbye bottle of blues
Hello sweet song, hello sweet lady who's
Got black tide hair and walking snub
The girl with Zooey Deschanel eyes from Gas Alley Pub

Her honey was a big guy built of boulder and bricks
I myself more gentle as feather skinny as a pair of sticks
She must of thought I was sexy I feared when she whispered words so sweet
I thought I was going to die when she puckered her lips and kissed me on the cheek

Goodbye memories, goodbye bottle of blues
Hello sweet song, hello sweet lady who's
Got black tide hair and walking snub
The girl with Zooey Deschanel eyes from Gas Alley Pub

A couple winter's passed and I'm still here
I can still hear her whispering in my ear
What a beautiful stranger, what a beautiful night
I'm just glad it ended in a handshake and not a fight

Goodbye memories, goodbye bottle of blues
Hello sweet song, hello sweet lady who's
Got black tide hair and walking snub
The girl with Zooey Deschanel eyes from Gas Alley Pub

Holy Matrimony! The Church Is On Fire!

Written By: Calvin Brabant

Grimy alabaster dress worn in the wake of a moment upon soiled night
Shouldered up with two lady killers and one round of snakebites
Riddle the Chardonnay eyes, riddle the diamonds strung on wire
The stain glass glowing, Holy Matrimony! The church is on fire!

Lips blessed in lavender a sweetly evil nectar
A devil made grin within her heart architecture
Riddle the red ribbon blonde locks, riddle the revealing attire
The stain glass glowing, Holy Matrimony! The church is on fire!

Damned damsel and a deep love decaying
Is the aisle of vows worth saving?
Knots, knots, untying knots
Shots, shots, and more shots
Oh Mrs. benedict misbehaving
Is the aisle of vows worth saving?

Dear faithful friend in hours increased to intimate
She who sees with scripture eyes and leaps with fate
Riddle the trust that finger wears, riddle no direction neither
Than the stain glass glowing, Holy Matrimony! The church is on fire!

Find You A Woman

Written By: Calvin Brabant

A good woman is hard to find or so they say
Puttin' strength in your faith for one of these days
Smoke ring some memories and blow away your past
Half cock your heart and stop doing things half-assed

Find you a job, you gotta get paid
Find you a woman, gotta get laid
Ain't got a mountain of money
Find you a woman with a heart all humbly
Before you're alone and hair's all grayed
Find you a woman, gotta get laid

A good man is hard to find and some would agree
There's only so many times they let their hearts bleed
So they're all the same, just lookin' for a piece of something
A piece of your heart, a piece of your soul anything worth humping

Find you a job, you gotta get paid
Find you a woman, gotta get laid
Ain't got a mountain of money
Find you a woman with a heart all humbly
Before you're alone and hair's all grayed
Find you a woman, gotta get laid

The moment eyes laid, you knew
Your heart thread hers like a screw
Alluring lips was her token
It was her that did all the provokin'
She said come you fine lad
I'll be the job you wish you had
The work is hard, but the pay is good
If you love me like nobody else could

Find you a job, you gotta get paid
Find you a woman, gotta get laid
Ain't got a mountain of money
Find you woman with a heart all humbly
Before you're alone and hair's all grayed
Find you a woman, gotta get laid

The Biggest Brick Of The World

Written By: Calvin Brabant

The biggest brick of the world, you stone me love
It's raining in my mind be damned if it floods
My life rushes blood to my heart in a hurry to wait
Wait for whatever, whatever do I have at stake?

The biggest brick of the world, you stone me love
Scraping my soul I think there's words unheard of
Waiting feels like a waste I have no ticket in hand
Peer into the glass pebbles of time turn to sand

Sink, sinking I think I sank
Tears drowning in beers like Mr. Williams Hank
Hard rock bottom of my heart
Two sides to a man flaming sparks
And I was crying, crying once
Happier than a couple drunks
Built like the Titanic, built like a tank
Sink, sinking I think I sank

The biggest brick of the world, you stone me love
Chaining my attitude links that rust to a past in mud
I shouldn't feel sorry for my heart laid heavy to rest
It's been shown the good, but not quite the best

Sink, sinking I think I sank
Tears drowning in beers like Mr. Williams Hank
Hard rock bottom of my heart
Two sides to a man flaming sparks
And I was crying, crying once
Happier than a couple of drunks
Built like the Titanic, built like a tank
Sink, sinking I think I sank

Polyalcohol Breakdown

Written By: Calvin Brabant

Lethal weaponless letter for a letter he sang
Golden-brown guitar with just enough Jeff Tweedy twang
Talking about some corn fields and cobs of smoke
He might be hanging his heart but it isn't broke

Cold shins blood rushing toes
Lean lips red as a rose
Behold the flame eyes that sound
Poly, polyalcohol breakdown

Center stage and the light strapped his face still singing
Cloud colored hair and fog gray stubble gritty wrinkling
Talking about a woman and the windburn on his soul the song he wrote
He might be hanging his heart but it isn't broke

Cold shins blood rushing toes
Lean lips red as a rose
Behold the flame eyes that sound
Poly, polyalcohol breakdown

To the gallows lethal weaponless he's struck
A melody over an E minor chord he's made up

Cold shins blood rushing toes
Lean lips red as a rose
Behold the flame eyes that sound
Poly, polyalcohol breakdown

Gave Up Drinking For A Dream

Written By: Calvin Brabant

Just a regular guy hanging at the regular spot
Ordering the same old beer and the same old shots
Playing the same old songs and looking at the same old girls
Listening to the same old heart living in the same old world

Gave up drinking for a dream
Gave up cigarettes for some more green
Picked out a palace in the sky
Didn't want to be set on fire when he died
Some hearts go down easy and miss the mainstream
Gave up drinking for a dream

He penned his heart and penned it rough
Poured out his last beer and took his last puff
Shot the reflection in the mirror it's clear he died
The day he started drinking his dreams lost their drive

Gave up drinking for a dream
Gave up cigarettes for some more green
Picked out a palace in the sky
Didn't want to be set on fire when he died
Some hearts go down easy and miss the mainstream
Gave up drinking for a dream

Gave up a girl and gave up her love so well
Gave up a career and gave up secrets he'd never tell
Gave up his soul and burned some memories
Gave up a life athletic full of energy

Gave up drinking for a dream
Gave up cigarettes for some more green
Picked out a palace in the sky
Didn't want to be set on fire when he died
Some hearts go down easy and miss the mainstream
Gave up drinking for a dream

The Horizon Blue

Written By: Calvin Brabant

The sun set on me if only you could see the horizon blue
Colorless tree limbs whiz by as my thoughts falling into view
A deluge of crunchy red scattered leaves,
I think I broke my heart on my sleeve

The sky don't care that these eyes are cemented in stare
The path from the past doesn't matter I pretend it was never there
I'm brewing memories because I can
Taillights stagnant like some worn plan

Right hand palmed the wheel at twelve o'clock
Left hand wavering the breeze like some old tye-dyed windsock
There's a woman walking the cross looking like she knows my song
Talking with her eyes, I just nod and motion her along

Green light go but yellow seems to flash my mind
Thoughts just glimmer like my rims rolling to the moonlight shine
My passenger's a fag dressed in paper burning wits and blowing smoke
He don't say much but he'll either kill me or I'll end up broke

I guess I left a trail of ashes but the past is safe
Nobody knows me strolling through the city of my birthplace
I could chair up to a bar and listen to the lyrics I wrote
But I wouldn't be half as happy as a kid with cartoons programmed on a remote

Left hand thumbing a couple quarters change
Right hand gripping a bottle of beer I feel strange
There's a woman in every corner I look with a guy by her side
Didn't even take a swig out the door I fled there's got to be more ahead on this ride

Remember The Heart You Broke

Written By: Calvin Brabant

Shot in the breech each time finding you can't go back the way you came
Hurt on a path half a heartache takes you somewhere you're to blame
Could have shut your mouth madhouse words you spoke
You remember love and you remember the heart you broke

Just a bad idea gee ya lost something good could you find it once more
Heart on a path laughs at a heartache makes you feel you're destined for
Something better than this your heart an abyss with a little sunstroke
You remember love and you remember the heart you broke

Creo en el amor, creo en el amor
Believe the power the hour swore
Creo en el amor, creo en el amor
Believe the power the hour swore
Dama de mentira, dama de mentira
If love wasn't in your heart

It's not the same flame as then you pen it now and vow patience
And wait fate will come sometime and round up a replacement
Open your heart but don't hurry your hope
You remember love and you remember the heart you broke

Creo en el amor, creo en el amor
Believe the power the hour swore
Creo en el amor, creo en el amor
Believe the power the hour swore
Dama de mentira, dama de mentira
If love wasn't in your heart

Photographs and Movie Stubs

Written By: Calvin Brabant

I graduated high school and that's when I started drinking
Fell in love with a beautiful girl, man what was I thinking
Could of went to college and got an English degree
Instead I'm just writing songs about memories

Photographs and movie stubs
Kisses on the memory of taste buds
Waking up sleepy
Cause dreaming's not easy
Life will never be as it was
In those pages of photographs and movie stubs

Still holding the same job at the local mart
Still holding a piece of her in my heart
Still burning my lungs with that Marlboro smoke
Still drinking dreams away with Jack and Coke

Photographs and movie stubs
Kisses on the memory of taste buds
Waking up sleepy
Cause dreaming's not easy
Life will never be as it was
In those pages of photographs and movie stubs

Even if I had decided to move her way
I think my heart was still headed in another direction
As much as I'd like to blame her for the heartache
I think it's mostly from my own mistakes

Photographs and movie stubs
Kisses on the memory of taste buds
Waking up sleepy
Cause dreaming's not easy
Life will never be as it was
In those pages of photographs and movie stubs

Zipped Up Fear

Written By: Calvin Brabant

I took a picture from my pocket in a locket on a chain
A reminder that life is as bouncy as her blonde bangs
Captain says quiet and hide yourself from the night flying plane
Hold your ground like you're holding on to a fast moving train

I zipped up fear on my camouflage suit
Tied up courage on my waterproof boots
Rifle eyes aimed steady ready to shoot
I don't know what I was feeling just a newborn recruit
In the news you never hear
How I had to zip up fear

I was trembling like I was in arctic socks
When I saw the first enemy parachute drop
I whispered Jesus I hope he sees this is what I have to do
When you're caged eye to eye with a man who wants to kill you

I zipped up fear on my camouflage suit
Tied up courage on my waterproof boots
Rifle eyes aimed steady ready to shoot
I don't know what I was feeling just a newborn recruit
In the news you never hear
How I had to zip up fear

I pulled the trigger and it doesn't mean I'm a bigger man
Scared as hell to tell the truth I just shot and ran

I zipped up fear on my camouflage suit
Tied up courage on my waterproof boots
Rifle eyes aimed steady ready to shoot
I don't know what I was feeling just a newborn recruit
In the news you never hear
How I had to zip up fear

Cheap Rainy Nights

Written By: Calvin Brabant

Cursive cursing on the nicked-up stones
Some cast-aside tools and very old bones
I think he was a philosopher fascinated with words
Sitting on woodland animal leather that smelled of meadow herbs

He must have perched the stars and sketched his mind
Soaked in some cheap rainy nights that I've yet to find
Sentenced a century in a prison called life or love
He said it could be worse, either could be unheard of

I think he knew the connection of not crossing t's
Or dotting his I's
Because one merely sees
What they want to with their own eyes

I think he became frustrated and ransacked his heart
The mind can make things up, your soul will honestly tear you apart
His knowledge of dreams will lead to dreams you have not
Has led me to soak in cheap rainy nights without an I to dot

Wind In My Sail

Written By: Calvin Brabant

You were the wind in my sail
The alcohol in my cocktail
My Saturday night and Sunday morning
My calm through all the storming

You were the wind in my sail
The oxygen I breathed the carbon I exhaled
You were the waters of a red sunset tide
You were the skinny in the dipping when we dived

I sail alone and that wind don't blow
The stars they flicker but that moon don't glow
Sinking in the dark, I paddle to shore
Nothing left of love to explore
I forget sometimes it's okay to fail
You were the wind in my sail

I've anchored my mind in the venture of my heart

I sail alone and that wind don't blow
The stars they flicker but that moon don't glow
Sinking in the dark, I paddle to shore
Nothing left of love to explore
I forget somtimes it's okay to fail
You were the wind in my sail

I Met John Mayer (In A Dream)

Written By: Calvin Brabant

I met John Mayer in a dream
He said to keep on slow dancing in a burning room
Gravity, gravity what does my heart hold on to
Keep on singing how you sing it's good for your esteem
I met John Mayer in a dream

I asked him where the light is
He said it's just a blurred neon bulb
And if you want to visit her wonderland
Just look in her eyes and feel her pulse

I met John Mayer in a dream
He said to keep on slow dancing in a burning room
Gravity, gravity what does my heart hold on to
Keep on singing how you sing it's good for your esteem
I met John Mayer in a dream

I asked him about the ammunition for heartbreak warfare
He said you gotta fall asleep with roses in your hand
And if you want to study the battle any better
Roll yourself over in the sadness of her sands

I met John Mayer in a dream
He said to keep on slow dancing in a burning room
Gravity, gravity what does my heart hold on to
Keep on singing how you sing it's good for your esteem
I met John Mayer in a dream

He went through all his albums I swear
He started with Born and Raised and went back to Room for Squares

I met John Mayer in a dream
He said to keep on slow dancing in a burning room
Gravity, gravity what does my heart hold on to
Keep on singing how you sing it's good for your esteem
I met John Mayer in a dream
