Bio
In the sleepy Northern town of Midland, Ontario, self taught singer and songwriter Matt Playne began his musical career. Performing as an acoustic solo artist and with his band A Sleepless Dream, Matt gained the support and adoration of the county, jamming out at a variety of local venues. When Matt decided to pursue his vocal career with classical training at The University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, he linked up with Blake Thiessen and his cousin, Coby Smith. Blake, and Coby had been playing music together for some time; inspired by a variety of acts like The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Radiohead, Sly and the Family Stone, and even The Beatles. When Blake, Coby and Matt discovered their mutual passion for music, the unique, Canadian, sound of Calvin James began to take shape. The talented and pristine Mark Gross expressed an interest in joining the band and the band was set to start hitting the stage.
As the group matured, a mutual friend introduced them to local London, Ontario music development company Prevail Music. More than a year after signing to Prevail Music, beginning to record, and perfecting their act, Calvin James is poised to hit the road with their debut EP, Soil & Stone.
