"10 Massachusetts Bands You Should Listen to Now"

Camden lives in the basements of Lower Allston, occasionally venturing out to play a show in the greater Boston area or even a set at SXSW. The four-piece hi-fi indie-pop outfit creates infectious tunes much more polished than most of their house-show-set-mates about twentysomething trivialities such as talking on the telephone and bonding with girls over Mustangs. But throughout their first three EPs, Camden’s music remains tinged with the basement dirt from the scene that produced them. - Paste

"Best of Boston 2012: Best New Music Artist"

Boston’s answer to the Strokes was spawned at Northeastern when undergrad Jason Bergman joined up with three classmates (Timmy Miles, Jason Sibilia, and Jim Williamson) to form Camden in 2010. This rocking, Stones-influenced quartet has an impressive following at Great Scott, and a few self-pressed vinyl releases to its name. See them now, before they explode: They’re in the studio working on a jazzier full-length album, expected to be released by spring 2013. - Boston Magazine

Bio

“Many years later”, the tenor saxophonist Bradford Marsalis recalled, “a lot of younger musicians were hanging around with Elvin Jones, and they were talking about, ‘Man, you know, you guys had an intensity when you were playing with Coltrane. I mean, what was it like? How do you play with that kind of intensity?’ And Elvin Jones looks at them and says, ‘You gotta be willing to die with the motherfucker.’ They started laughing like kids do, waiting for the punchline, and then they realized he was serious. How many people do you know that are willing to die—period? Die with anybody! And when you listen to those records, that’s exactly what they sound like. I mean that they would die for each other.”

After cutting their teeth on the basement shows of Allston, MA and cruising the college circuit of Boston, 2012 proved to be a trying year for Camden. Their home/practice space caught fire last Summer. These guys bounced back though. In the wake of that unfortunate incident Camden was voted Best New Music Artist by the Boston Magazine in 2012 and was nominated for a Boston Phoenix "Best of 2012" award. They were also listed as one of the Paste Magazine Top 10 bands to watch from Massachusetts in June 2012.

A Summer in the studio with long time producer Greg Teves (Biscuits & Gravy, Love in Stockholm) has kept them out of the clubs, but this Fall that will all change as they prepare for the release of their debut full-length early next year.
