How did you get to where you are today with your music?

Persistence and networking. I knew next to nothing about the business when I started out, and while my parents have always been very supportive, I knew it was up to me to gain every bit of knowledge I could about this crazy career path. I would spend HOURS online “googling” everything from agents, managers, labels, songwriters and producers, to reading articles and publications on the industry. One person and opportunity would somehow always lead me to another, even if the initial event itself didn’t pan out. It just became a snowball effect after that. I’ve learned that every person you meet will end up being an asset to you in some way.

You seem very young. How old were you when you started performing?

I get this question a lot! I am actually 22, even though most people think I am around 17 or 18 (my mom says I’ll be glad I have these genes later – haha!!) I started performing at a really young age because I was a dancer growing up, but I really started pursuing music to the extent I am now when I was about 12 or 13 years old.

Before you did this, were you in any other bands?

Haha, this could become quite a list. I started off in a pop duo for a couple of years called “Illusion”, then I did the solo thing for a bit before I was placed in a 5 girl “tween” pop group called “DLG” that was being put together (keep in mind this was all before I could even drive a car). Then I went back to the solo thing again for a few years before I auditioned for and made one of three spots in a pop / urban trio called “Total Knock Outs” (TKO) which was headed up by Angel Carter (reality star on the E! Channel’s “House of Carters” and sister to Nick and Aaron Carter) which moved me to first Orlando, FL, and then Hollywood, CA, with the group. After a couple of years of that, and realizing that my country roots were what I always came back to, I decided to get back to my solo project full time and fuse my love for popular music with my naturally southern “twang.” Hence the direction I am headed in now!

How do you like working with Code Blue Media?

I think it’s great how they connect you to so many resources. There are so many discounts and perks with companies that they have worked out that are so invaluable to a struggling, up and coming musician.

What are some of your major influences that affect your music today?

Mainly just life in general; the good, the bad, the happy, the sad.

What were some of your favorite bands growing up?

I grew up in a house where music was constantly playing and my parents listened to a little bit of everything. I had an OBSESSION with Michael Jackson when I was a child (and I say obsession because most children don’t run around wearing gloves with no fingers at age 4, but that’s another story! Haha). I loved Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac, Bette Midler, Peter, Paul & Mary, Anita Baker, quite the array of artists! I’m sure I’m leaving out so many!

What can we expect from you, Cameron, in the near future?

I’ve been speaking with a few labels since the start of the year so hopefully we will work something out, but if not I plan on finishing recording and putting out an album on my own, and then putting a tour together to promote it. So I guess that means I’m gonna be a pretty busy girl :)

Do you believe in UFO's?

Well, without getting too deep, I kinda find it hard to believe that such a magnificent universe has been created and yet that life would be left to only exist on one tiny portion of it. So if that means I think there are UFO’s, then I don’t know, but I definitely think there is probably some sort of life elsewhere.

What do you think of Big Smile Magazine?

I think it’s awesome that you give a voice to the independent artist.
