"Cameron Stenger"

It’s hard to know where to begin with an artist like Cameron Stenger. At the same moment that I want to gush about the hidden gem of an album found in Where You Are, I want to enter a diatribe about how, despite his honest and humble means as a musician, this is the type of music that can get lost in an endless ocean of fake top-40 garbage and that may never find a respectable audience beyond a few staunch supporters. I sincerely hope that last part is way off, but even in the rich soil that is the indie-blogging scene it still feels like an uphill battle more often than not (just ask welistenforyou).

But I guess the point I’m trying to make is that Where You Are is everything that is right with music - while it wouldn’t be fair to expect everyone to fall in love with this album, anyone with a penchant for simple, pleasing, often profound acoustic music will find something special hidden in these 10 tracks. Some songs, like Wild Rose, go a little bit off the trodden path to add some piano or other forms of instrumentation, but mostly you can expect to hear Cameron’s pensive voice over a few acoustic guitar riffs and with a recording so raw you can often catch him clearing his throat before the verses. There is an unspoken beauty with music like that that I have the utmost reverence for.

Where You Are is being offered for *FREE* over at Cameron’s bandcamp page, and it appears to be the first thing he’s done since 2008’s Fool’s Day. When Cameron contacted me, he let me know he was working to drum up some interest in his music before heading off to a few upcoming shows in his home state of New York (Show dates include an upcoming 4/30 show at NYC’s Pianos Lounge).

I implore you, the reader, to please give this a shot - you’ve got nothing to lose in checking out this album. Listen to another track, entitled Leaves, below, and you can also find him on tumblr. -
