"Campaigning for Zeros"

There’s a large effort to support local music. Some of those homegrown bands may never make it to the top of the Billboard charts or even get on the radio, but you know what? Those bands are creating a soundtrack to your otherwise dull and silent life. Campaigning For Zeros certainly is not a band that looks to play for a short time; this group is in it for the long haul as it looks to make itself known here in central IE, one music aficionado at a time.

“Our target audience is people who love music and appreciate the benefit of live music. When we play a show we give it our all. I would say we are branching out more lately to keep people entertained but the main focus is always the music,” says singer-guitarist Eric Taylor.

You can trust a band that knows how to describe itself, and Kevin Wiseman (no doubt aptly named) effectively characterizes how Campaigning For Zeros transmits it’s infectiously tasty rock. “Brad wails on the drums, I am all over the bass and Eric goes for crunchy guitar while he sings,” says Wiseman. Don’t you just love it when an adjective normally used to describe food instead describes the tasty tunes of music? Sure, I’ll take an order of a sweet guitar riff, please.

You’ll get more than just a satisfyingly “crunchy” guitar tune here and this is what makes Campaigning For Zeros special. A while back the band ran into Kevin Lyman, renowned Warped Tour runner, who serves the band some chills by stating that he wants them to play their next song like it was the last time—ever. Despite nerve-wrecking pressure, the band played a miraculous tune and five months later they performed at Warped Tour.

Campaigning For Zeros strives to reach out to new venues for a single reason: It takes a strong initiative from all locals to keep music thriving. Drummer Brad Ouellette gives the statement of the year in what he says is important to all local bands. “It is up to all of us to keep the scene alive. It’s going to be a sad day if it’s gone.” Support the Campaign and preserve the world’s music, one tasty riff at a time. - Inland Empire Weekly - Ashley Bennett

"Mark Your Ballots "YES" for Campaigning for Zeros"

Coachella Valley Weekly is campaigning for Campaigning For Zeros who are anything BUT zeros. Far from it, this trio sounds triple its size and is guaranteed to go from zero to mosh pit in the first three minutes of live play. Campaigning for Zeros captures the raw essence of the post-punk and alternative rock movement while following in the pop-punk footsteps of mainstream bands like Green Day and The Offspring. The band formed in 2009, when Eric Taylor, on a musical “break” (neck brace included following an automobile accident), put an ad on Craig’s list for local Coachella Valley musicians. Defying the standard complications endured by most musicians, these three, Eric Taylor on guitar and vocals (sans injury), Brad Ouellette on drums and Kevin Wiseman on bass came together with ease and have since been dedicated as much to their music as they are to having fun doing it.
Sourglass, their second EP, is being released and celebrated this Friday, September 7 at the Red Barn in Palm Desert. Following their highly successful first release, Premonitions, they have come freakishly close to capturing the ever illusive “live” sound and energy producers strive for. The vocals are clear and cutting against the distinctive guitar licks, active, music-theory-defying base lines and hard, driving drum foundation. Lyrically, they manage to turn stress and angst into a fun thing. This band caught a wave of good luck with their first release, and they are intent on riding it out as far as it will take them. “Luck” got them on stage at the prestigious Warped Tour and has unlimited potential with this second release.

“Our target audience is people who love music and appreciate the benefit of live music. When we play a show, we give it our all. I would say we are branching out more lately to keep people entertained but the main focus is always the music,” says singer-guitarist Eric Taylor. To quote Kevin Wiseman, “Brad wails on the drums, I am all over the bass and Eric goes for crunchy guitar while he sings.” Campaigning for Zeros takes the responsibility of promoting the live music scene personally as drummer Brad Ouellette states “It is up to all of us (bands in general) to keep the scene alive. It’s going to be a sad day if it’s gone.”
See and feel it for yourself. Campaigning for Zeros EP release party for “Sourglass” will be held this Friday, September 7 at 9pm at the Red Barn, 73290 Hwy 111, Palm Desert, CA (760) 346-0191) Bands Jekkel and The Rebel Noise joining them. Track Campaigning for Zeros on their website cfzeros.com

"Campaigning for Zeros, Premonitions"

Campaigning for Zeros consists of, Eric Taylor, Brad Ouellette and Kevin Wiseman. Three guys from Coachella CA created a 3 song EP called, “Premonitions”. All the songs are enough to leave you begging for more. You can also hit repeat on your CD player and let them run through a few times. I did and had that head bobbing thing going nonstop.
They have a grinding alternative rock sound. Eric’s voice is fitting for the music. The band is good at what they do and compliment their front man with great force. The first song, “Beneath the Moon” is melodic and soaring. It is a good opener; very strong and grabs your attention right away. Their pretty rocking; it is not head banging, but certainly more edgy than your typical popular music.
My favorite song of the 3 is, “Lost”. This one is extremely hooky and stands out above the others. There is a lot going on, drums are driving, guitars are jamming and vocally Eric has amazing articulation. Every word is heard with concise clarity.
They have a fresh sound that is extremely radio friendly. Up tempo, feel good songs with vibrancy and class. The one disappointing thing about this EP is that there are only 3 songs. But it is a nice start and I look forward to hearing more. - Skope Magazine - by Rebecca Hosking

Bio

Campaigning for Zeros, an alternative trio from the Coachella Valley, CA released their EP Sourglass on September 7th, 2012. This second EP from the band takes a more raw approach to catching their sound in comparison to their debut release, Premonitions.

The 3-song self-released EP demonstrates the melodic writing style of vocalist and guitarist Eric Taylor, the fluency of bassist Kevin Wiseman, and the hard hitting rhythms of drummer Brad Ouellette. Taylor’s antagonistic relationship with time thematically unites the three songs, which were recorded in May 2012 at Rick Jones Studio and Sound in Palm Desert, CA. In addition to the title track “Sourglass”, the EP also includes the tracks "Multiple Attempts, Still Nothing", and "Something Real".

Campaigning for Zeros formed in early 2010 and after months of jamming in the garage of drummer Brad Ouellette, first performed live that December. In March of 2011 during their fifth show, at the legendary Palm Desert, CA dive bar The Red Barn, Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman stopped them after the second song of their set and told them “play the next song like its the last song you will ever play. If I like it I will put you guys on Warped Tour.” After playing their song “In My Dreams”, it was only a matter of a few emails before Campaigning for Zeros was posted on the Warped Tour website and booked to play the San Diego date of the 2011 tour.

In June of 2011 they visited Sound Sanctuary Studios in Riverside, CA to record their first EP Premonitions. The record consisted of the songs “Beneath the Moon”, “In My Dreams”, and “Lost”, which has been picking up play on several internet radio stations since its release. Rebecca Hosking of Skope Magazine said the record has “up tempo, feel good songs with vibrancy and class” in her September 23, 2011 review of the self-released debut EP.

After the release of Premonitions the band booked shows in the Palm Springs, Los Angeles, and San Diego areas to further build their fan-base. Besides sharing the stage with such acts as Terrible Things, Eyes Set to Kill, and There for Tomorrow at the Vans Warped Tour, they recently opened a show for Unwritten Law at the Date Shed in Indio, CA in July 2012.

“This situation calls for a different interpretation”, a quote from “Something Real”, the last track on the Sourglass EP, is the thought process the band has in trying to encourage more people to attend live music. Music is what makes the world go round and Campaigning for Zeros is putting in their effort to keep it spinning.
