Bio

Campo´s proposal mixes indie pop, folk and rock with tango, cumbia and 60’s Latin music in a sophisticated and present pop context, with tracks performed in both English and Spanish.
They define its music as “subtropical music”. This term is used to mark differences with tropical music and at the same time (through references made in some of the songs) Campo music is twinned with genres like cumbia, the urban music born in Argentinean and Uruguayan slums.

In 2012 the music collective edited its first independent album called Campo with Bizarro Records and in Argentina and Latin America with DBN. Digitally, distribution is made through Tune Core.
The album was produced by Juan Campodónico together with Gustavo Santaolalla and with the collaboration of Joe Chiccarelli (sound engineer for The Strokes, The Shins, White Stripes, among others).
Press releases have been done in Argentina, Uruguay and U.S. Latin media by Elena Rodrigo.

The first track, "La Marcha Tropical" has been played on the radio and internet. The song is a powerful collage which incorporates hip-hop, cumbia and the delicate voice of Swedish singer Ellen Arkbro. The video clip was directed by Charly Gutierrez and it is on MTV and Youtube (170,000 views).

1987: The second video clip has been directed by Martin Rivero and Mateo Paparamborda. It features the participation of special guest Jorge Drexler. It is also on YouTube and has over 80 thousand views.

In May 2012: Radio station Los Angeles KSRW selected the “Tu Lugar” song as Today´s Top Tune: http://www.kcrw.com/music/programs/tu/tu120522campo_tu_lugar

During 2012 Campo was nominated as Best South American Artist at the MTV European Music Awards held in Frankfurt, Germany. Campo has also been nominated to the Grammy Awards in the Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album category and also to the Latin Grammy in the Best Alternative Song for "1987“. In Uruguay, Campo obtained the Grafitti Award for the Best Electro-Pop Album Award. Its song “La Marcha Tropical” also won as the Best Uruguayan Song of the Year at the Iris Awards.

In March 2013, Campo performed at the South By South West Festival (SxSw) in Austin, Texas. It performed at the “Uruguayan Sounds” showcase, having a great public acceptance. Campo also performed at the Warp Magazine showcase at Blackheart.
