"Ted Gottsegen"

"This is the real deal - a band carrying on the legacy of the great swing era small groups" - Just Jazz Guitar Magazine, Feb. 04

"Jeff Parker"

"One of those few bands on the scene today that may proudly wear a medallion that says, 'Real Jazz'" - - DJ and Host of "Parker's Place" on KAAT, 103.1 FM

""Sailor Mike" Mizgalski"

"I think both The Campus 5 and Jonathan Stout's Big Band are the two of the finest swing bands we have today, not only because of Jonathan Stouts commitment to the art and his appreciation for the era, but also because Mr. Stout has that rare connection to the dancers that comes from being a dancer himself and a pretty good one at that, he knows what keeps our feet moving and he gives it to us with style and grace." - Swing Dancer, 2006 National Collegiate Shag Champion

"Shayne White"

These people are incredible! I grew up watching Fred 'n' Ginger musicals and loved the old swing that was alive everywhere. These people are the real thing! They're fantastic musicians and sound just like the old masters back in the 40's. The recording quality is also really good. I cannot recommend this album highly enough. There are a lot of great old songs and tunes here that are some of the most fun music you could find anywhere. Their second album is awesome, too.

If they ever do a Northern California tour, I'll go!! - customer review on cdbaby.com

Bio

Jonathan Stout and his Campus Five, featuring Hilary Alexander is the nations premier swing dance band, and the most authentic small group swing band anywhere. The Campus Five is a septet dedicated to preserving the classic and often overlooked small group swing from the late 1930s and early 1940s. Founded by two dedicated swing dancers, the Campus Five was a way to expose many dancers and listeners alike to some of the more interesting and under appreciated tunes from the swing era, while still being the most danceable band playing swing today. The Campus Five picks tunes from the books of notable small groups as the Benny Goodman Sextet, Count Basies Kansas City Six/Seven, Artie Shaw and his Gramercy Five, as well as the small groups of Lester Young, Lionel Hampton, Illinois Jacquet, Cootie Williams, Django Reinhardt, Duke Ellington, and Coleman Hawkins, and features vocal numbers from Ella Mae Morse, Anita ODay, Peggy Lee and the young Ella Fitzgerald.

The Campus Five has traveled the world to play to eager swing dancers. We have been flown to play for dancers in London (England, that is), New York, Washington D.C., San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Cleveland, Sacramento and Phoenix. Our big band, the Jonathan Stout Orchestra, was flown to New York to play the 2006 Midsummer Night Swing Festival at Lincoln Center.

The Campus Five has also played at several jazz festivals, such as the Sweet and Hot Jazz Festival, and the Orange County Classic Jazz Festival, as well as many municipal and community festivals and concert series, such as the Culver City Music Festival, the Ventura Lemon Festival, the Ventura Music Festival, the Lake Gregory Summer Concert Series

We have released three albums, 2003's "Jammin' the Blues", 2004's "Crazy Rhythm", and 2007's "Moppin' and Boppin,'" to great reviews by both listeners and dancers alike. In fact, many of the world's top swing dancers use our albums when teaching dance at event across the country.

TV - we were featured on the Ellen Degeneres Show - aired 2.14.2005.
