"Another interview I did with Kayla for CiNWeekly..."

Q: Name of artist/band (include all band member’s names and instruments played):

A: My name is Candice Clark. I sing both the lead vocals and background vocals on all of my own songs, and the number of instrumentalists (guitarists, violinists, keyboardists/pianists, drummers, etc.) depends on the song and therefore it varies.

Q: Is your stage name trademarked?

A: “Trademarked”, hmmm… only on my birth certificate. ( :

Q: Tell me how you guys got together.
A: I spent most of my school years living in Ohio where I graduated from High School with honors, early so that I could focus entirely on my music career. I was then blessed to have met a young, very successful, Dove Award-winning producer out of Nashville, Tennessee and began to write & record my own material. I sing mostly “top-40”, pop-rock, but I love and appreciate all genres of music.

Q: What is the artistic process within the group?

A: I absolutely love to write songs because it is a great way for me to release what I'm feeling. Even just writing down my emotions on a piece of paper makes me feel so much better! I find inspiration in my own experiences, both good & bad, and then I write it down in a way that, hopefully, people will be able to relate to it somehow.

Q: Have you filed your songs for copyright protection?

A: Yes, all of my songs are copy written.

Q: Have any of your songs been published? (If so, by whom.)

A: No. None of my songs have been published through any professional organization yet.

Q: Have you affiliated with a performance rights organization? (Which one? ASCAP, BMI, SESAC?)

A: Yes, ASCAP.

Q: What is your background? (Who are you and your band members? Tell your story.)

A: I knew from the time I was very young that I was born to be on stage. I’ll never forget the feeling I felt when everyone in the audience stood up to applaud my performance after I sang my very first solo. It was then, at only seven years old that I decided this was a feeling that I never wanted to give up for anything. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with the rest of my life; I wanted to be a singer. I moved around a lot while I was growing up, but I never lost sight of my dreams so I continued to pursue them singing in church and also in many musicals. Though I don’t usually have a lot of free-time, when I’m not working in the studio or writing a new song, I enjoy listening to many different types of music from artists of the past, ones that are popular today and up-and-coming, talented hopefuls like myself.

Q: Do any band members belong to the Musician’s Union?

A: No, not currently.

Q: Do you have a written band agreement?

A: No, I have not yet signed any binding legal agreements with any instrumentalists.

Q: Why do you want to record and release your own music? (Be very honest.)

A: I think it’s really important for a performer never to lose their connection to the artistic side of music. I’m very into the art of writing from my own personal experiences & then performing my songs so the audience can always tell that the words I’m singing are coming from my heart; singing with emotion. There might be some successful artists out there that don’t share this same priority, but it seems to me that the best work is that which comes from the artist’s point of view. I hope I never lose that connection.

Q: Who are your fans/customers? (Analyze this question thoroughly.)

A: I love my fans so much! I don’t necessarily feel like my fans are of any particular age, race, or gender. I’m constantly getting messages on my myspace page from people all over the world; boys, girls, men & women of all ages, telling me that they like my music & encouraging me to continue following my dreams. Just knowing that I have the support of such kind people means more to me than words can say & it’s truly my inspiration to keep working as hard as I can to be able to say that I’ve achieved all the goals I have my heart set on accomplishing at this point in my life!

Q: What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

A: I write songs about so many different things. It’s amazing how much inspiration you’ll find in the places you would least expect! If you go to my website ( & click on "media", then "music", you can read the lyrics to some of my songs and I think that can give people an even better understanding of what the songs are really about. Like "But You Said" for example, is about a broken relationship I was in that ended because of lies & deceit. Even though someone might have experienced a situation with different circumstances, they can still relate to the feelings I felt that come with any bad relationship and hopefully, they find strength & comfort in knowing that they're not alone.

Q: Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the song writing process in detail.)

A: Yes, I do write my own songs. For me, the “writing pro - CiNWeekly Magazine

I've recorded 9 tracks, singing all of the vocals (lead, background & harmonies), all of which have been professionally mixed & mastered by, Dove Award-winning producer, Brent Hendrich in association with WestEnd Productions out of Nashville, TN. * Upon entering Mason High School, Candice auditioned for an all women’s upper level chorus called “Bel Canto,” and was placed in it as a first soprano. Her choral director also had her sing both second soprano and alto throughout the year when she noticed that the section was struggling and needed leadership.

* Candice has also worked with a personal vocal instructor through the Musical Arts Center for the past four years, who is currently a professional opera singer with her Master's Degree in music. She helped to familiarize Candice with a much more classical style of musical literature and she taught her correct breathing techniques to help strengthen her voice. Her instruction has given Candice experience singing many different types of music including pieces from Broadway musicals such as “Cats,” “Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat,” and “Les Miserables,” and also arias in various languages such as Italian, French, Latin, and Hebrew.

* Candice has played the clarinet and the guitar and enjoyed both of them, but later decided that singing was her true love and that her voice would be the instrument she wanted to continue to pursue. Candice was involved with the advanced women’s choral group at her high school until being placed in an Honors Concert Choir which received a superior rating at the OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association) District XIII Large Group State Competition.

* Candice was able to graduate with honors earlier than her classmates after completing the required courses so that she could focus all of her efforts on her music and continue to vocally train everyday. “I was blessed with the opportunity to work with an amazingly talented producer and engineer in Nashville, Tennessee who won the prestigious GMA Dove Award for having produced the number one Contemporary Christian Album in 2002.” Candice says. The two began writing and recording within hours of being introduced as they were both filled with enthusiasm after Candice shared with him how hard she was willing to work and that she would make any necessary sacrifices for her dreams of being a star to become a reality.

* The young singer says, “I told him that I know exactly where I want to go and I won’t let anyone or anything stand in my way of achieving my many goals.” Now, being a vocalist and a songwriter, at only 20 years old Candice is filled with creative energy that fuels her each day. “I constantly find myself writing down thoughts that inspire me to write pieces of songs. I can only hope that they will come together like the pieces of a puzzle and that someday at least one will become a #1 Billboard hit!” Candice says that through her music, she wants to combine the soulful elements of the R&B influences she grew up listening to, with a hot, pop-rock sound! ☺♪♫
