Candice Clark: Singer/Songwriter

BandPopSinger/Songwriter

The "style" of my music is somewhat similar to that of Kelly Clarkson and Ashlee Simpson, but I don't typically like to compare my personal style to that of other artists because as a songwriter, I write what I feel based on my own experiences, which are different from those of other musicians.

* Upon entering Mason High School, Candice auditioned for an all women’s upper level chorus called “Bel Canto,” and was placed in it as a first soprano. Her choral director also had her sing both second soprano and alto throughout the year when she noticed that the section was struggling and needed leadership.

* Candice has also worked with a personal vocal instructor through the Musical Arts Center for the past four years, who is currently a professional opera singer with her Master's Degree in music. She helped to familiarize Candice with a much more classical style of musical literature and she taught her correct breathing techniques to help strengthen her voice. Her instruction has given Candice experience singing many different types of music including pieces from Broadway musicals such as “Cats,” “Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat,” and “Les Miserables,” and also arias in various languages such as Italian, French, Latin, and Hebrew.

* Candice has played the clarinet and the guitar and enjoyed both of them, but later decided that singing was her true love and that her voice would be the instrument she wanted to continue to pursue. Candice was involved with the advanced women’s choral group at her high school until being placed in an Honors Concert Choir which received a superior rating at the OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association) District XIII Large Group State Competition.

* Candice was able to graduate with honors earlier than her classmates after completing the required courses so that she could focus all of her efforts on her music and continue to vocally train everyday. “I was blessed with the opportunity to work with an amazingly talented producer and engineer in Nashville, Tennessee who won the prestigious GMA Dove Award for having produced the number one Contemporary Christian Album in 2002.” Candice says. The two began writing and recording within hours of being introduced as they were both filled with enthusiasm after Candice shared with him how hard she was willing to work and that she would make any necessary sacrifices for her dreams of being a star to become a reality.

* The young singer says, “I told him that I know exactly where I want to go and I won’t let anyone or anything stand in my way of achieving my many goals.” Now, being a vocalist and a songwriter, at only 20 years old Candice is filled with creative energy that fuels her each day. “I constantly find myself writing down thoughts that inspire me to write pieces of songs. I can only hope that they will come together like the pieces of a puzzle and that someday at least one will become a #1 Billboard hit!” Candice says that through her music, she wants to combine the soulful elements of the R&B influences she grew up listening to, with a hot, pop-rock sound! ☺♪♫

Lyrics

"Too Good To Be True"

Written By: Candice Clark

You always know just what to say
To let me know it’s all okay
But I hope these aren’t all just words
That you stole from a slow song you heard

{Chorus}
I wanna know that what I feel is real for you
And you’re not just too good, too good to be true
I wanna know that what I feel you’re feelin’ too
And you’re not just too good, too good to be true

I can’t get my mind off you
And all the little things you do
I hope it wasn’t just a line
When you said, “I’m yours and you are mine.”

{Chorus}
I wanna know that what I feel is real for you
And you’re not just too good, too good to be true
I wanna know that what I feel you’re feelin’ too
And you’re not just too good, too good to be true

[Bridge]
You know just how to make me smile
I hope I’m not just in denial
That everything I feel for you
Isn’t too good to be true

{Chorus}
I wanna know that what I feel is real for you
And you’re not just too good, too good to be true
I wanna know that what I feel you’re feelin’ too
And you’re not just too good, too good to be true

"Tell Me Why"

Written By: Candice Clark

Everytime that I come
Just a little bit closer
You always run
Just a little bit further
It seems to me
It’s all been a waste
Now I want nothin’ more than to run from this place

[Pre-chorus]
Guess I was never what you really wanted
I’ll never know why you said all you said

{Chorus}
I love you
I need you
Can’t see myself without you
Just tell me why

You hate me
Don't want me
Can’t stand to be around me

Just tell me why (Repeat)

I tried so hard
To make you smile
You asked for an inch
So I gave you a mile
I let you in
Like no body else
But it seems all you did was think of yourself

[Pre-chorus]
Guess I was never what you really wanted
I’ll never know why you said all you said

{Chorus}

[Bridge]
I tried to give you everything
Now all I want’s an explanation
Why’s it seem the only thing you gave to me
Was this frustration

{Chorus}
[Repeat Chorus]

"Only In My Dreams"

Written By: Candice Clark

When our eyes meet my heart starts to race
Feels like there’s no one else in this place
When you’re near me I become weak
Tongue tied in knots I can no longer speak
[Only in my dreams]

You leave me speechless I can only stare
Can’t believe you’re with me, my unanswered prayer
To me you’re perfect in every way
Wish you’d never leave but here with me you’d stay

{Chorus}
And now as I go to sleep each night
I dream of you and me
I love you still and always will
But it’s not reality
You’re only in my dreams

I reach my hand out to see if you’re there
Then I realize not all dreams are fair
I close my eyes and I count to ten
Hoping you’re here when they’re open again

{Chorus}

[Bridge]
Left me alone with no reason why
Not even one last painful goodbye
In my dreams is where you’ll be
Though my eyes might still be closed
Your face is all I see

{Chorus}
And now as I go to sleep each night
I dream of you and me
I love you still and always will
But it’s not reality
You’re only in my dreams

[Only in my dreams]

"Let Me Be"

Written By: Candice Clark

You’ve taken so much from me
You leave me with no choice
You never hear a word I say
Feels like you took my voice

[Pre-chorus]
I’ll open up just look inside me
You’ll see I don’t need you to guide me

{Chorus}
Let me begin to find where I belong
Let me be beautiful, let me be strong
Let me become who I wanna be
Let me believe in things we can’t see
What more can I do to show
This is my time and you need to let go

I have nothin’ to call my own
Especially what you give
I don’t want anything you have
Just my own life to live

[Pre-chorus]
You think that I can’t find my way
But because I was lost I’m stronger today

{Chorus}

[Bridge]
Just let me go
Stop holding my hand
I wanna be free
Why can’t you understand

{Chorus}

[Outro]
Let me go, let me fly,
Let me wonder, let me try,
Let me think, let me leave,
Let me speak, Let me be

"Livin' For Today"

Written By: Candice Clark

When the clock is tickin’ and you’re already late
Just take your time it’ll all have to wait
When the walls you’ve created come tumbling down
There’s light in the darkness so just look around

[Pre-chorus]
Start livin’ your life
Right here and right now
Never give up
And you’ll make it somehow

{Chorus}
Hold onto this moment
Letting go of the past
Live every day like you know it’s your last

Leave tomorrow until it comes
And forget yesterday
Takin’ one step at a time ‘cause you’re livin’ for today
[Livin’ for today]

When that one chance seems to pass you right by
Don’t sit around wishin’ and just wonderin’ why
When you’ve got a question don’t be afraid to ask
Learn who’s inside and stop wearin’ a mask

[Pre-chorus]
Start livin’ your life
Right here and right now
Never give up
And you’ll make it somehow

{Chorus}
Hold onto this moment
Letting go of the past
Live every day like you know it’s your last

Leave tomorrow until it comes
And forget yesterday
Takin’ one step at a time ‘cause you’re livin’ for today

You’re livin’ for today

"But You Said"

Written By: Candice Clark

You said I was your one and only
But you’re the one who left me lonely
Told me things you can’t take back
But they were all part of your act

You told me she was your mistake
But your mistake made my heart break

But you said, so I thought
All the lies you told me
Were the reasons that we fought

But you said, so I thought
I know that you were lying
Now that you’ve been caught
But you said

You told me things were gonna change
But nothin’s changed, it’s all the same
You told me this would last forever
Forever’s gone, we’re not together now

{Chorus}

[Bridge]
After all you’ve said and done
I’ve realized that you’re not the one for me

{Chorus}
But you said, so I thought
I thought you would remember
I guess that you forgot

What you said, now I know
You’re just not who I thought you were
So now I’m letting go
But you said [Repeat]
