Drawing on the eclectic artistic & musical background of songwriter Joseph Cashiola, Candles originally formed in Baltimore, Maryland in 2008. Candles is currently based in Marfa, Texas, and has since grown to include musicians Chris Hillen, Jonathan Rayburn, Carlos Lujan, and a few other friends.
The band’s first full-length record, Gently Used, was recorded and mixed at Marfa Recording Co. by Gory Smelley, and is scheduled for release in early 2011. Funded in its entirety by a work-trade agreement in the form of welding and carpentry furniture fabrication, the record is truly an exercise in communal collaboration.
Candles have played locally with touring bands The Clientele, The Black, and Hotel Brotherhood. At the moment, the band is in the planning stages of a US & European Tour in support of the debut record.
