Bio

Candread & the Rizing Rezistance is a Roots Reggae band dedicated to creating and performing fun-loving music driven by lyrics that reveal social condition – both the pleasure and the plight. Candread & the Rizing Rezistance is earning a reputation across the Pacific Northwest for authentic Reggae music underscored and enhanced by Southeast African upbeat tempos, Latin-style flair and a smooth splash of Hip-Hop just for kicks.

Candread has shared the stage with Joseph Israel of Lions of Israel fame and the politically charged Rastafarian Dr. Israel. With the ability to write and croon lyrics in four languages (English, Portuguese, Spanish and Nyanja), it’s no surprise Candread already has performed on stages in the United States, Mexico and Africa.

“It was just a matter of time until a homegrown Afro-Pop Reggae band gelled … a booty-shaking good time,” wrote Boise Weekly after a recent downtown Boise performance.

Candread is influenced by Reggae legends Peter Tosh, Alpha Blondy, Burning Spear and Oliver Mtukudzi. Accompanying Candread on stage is a variety of musicians of African as well as American heritage, creating a unique universal sound.

Laying down a grounding but lighthearted bass line is Brother Robere, a first-generation American of Congolese descent.
