Cantrip began as an experiment in a garage. But as fledgling songs began ricocheting off the walls, it became clear that they were meant to fly. And fly high, at that.
The core of Cantrip is comprised of two very different musicians and songwriters. One, an American with a musical past rooted in drumming spectacularly for a metal band. The other, a British singer and lyricist whose love for music and words was planted by the likes of Kate Bush and Stevie Nicks.
The result is a strange marriage of style. Acoustic. Heavy. Pop. Alternative. There might be an echo of country. Or jazz. An Eastern dance through the desert, even. But, while diverse, Cantrip's songs fit together like a well-crafted jigsaw.
Cantrip's debut album, Mercury in Water, will be released early 2010 and will feature special guest appearances by several musicians.
