Bio

Throughout American history, the streets of Richmond, Virginia have experienced cultural change like no other in the country. Each generation creates it’s own voice and form that builds on success and learns from past failures. The newest talent and music style to launch from Richmond is one of experience and influence that speaks of real-life. For hip-hop artist Capers, now is the time to introduce the rest of the world to his relaxed, polished style that exudes power, maturity and confidence.
Proudly raised by a single mother, Capers learned first-hand what it meant to work hard to achieve dreams. With a deep respect, he truly appreciated how she raised and supported her family to the best of her abilities. Capers took this experience and incorporated it into his musical vision.
At age 13, Capers was introduced to the world of music through piano lessons. With the fire lit, he expanded his musical horizons to the DJ booth. Learning the beats and the power of music was a strong experience. Realizing the strength of the written and spoken word, Capers soon turned to lyrics and songwriting as his escape.
After graduating from high school, Capers chose to experience things not normally awarded to young men of his age and background by joining the military. During this time, two things changed his life: going overseas and fighting for a cause in Desert Storm. Exposure to sheer devastation with little regard for life made a lasting impact on his life. Capers realized music could, and would, be his release. Back in Europe after the war, he was asked to enter a rap contest and the flame grew stronger.
Capers continued to hone his talent and skills and took the European hip-hop scene by storm. Working with the likes of DJ Friction and Breite Seite, Capers seized the opportunity to skillfully blend the American hip-hop culture he knew well with the progressive, fast-moving European mix. This influence is prevalent in his music.
A near death experience reaffirmed to Capers that not only was music going to be his life, but that the Lord gave him a second chance for a reason. Every bit of his heart and soul is poured into his music every time he takes the stage. Rising above the negativity experienced throughout his life has given Capers insightful knowledge and musical avenues many artists can’t grasp.
Capers’ delivery is an old-school style that would make Rakim and Wise Intelligent (Poor Righteous Teachers) proud. By incorporating these strong influences, Capers has created a style all his own that is destined to set the standard for today’s budding hip-hop generation.
Capers’ five-song demo shows the full range of his talents. Songs like “Movers-n-Shakers,” “Raw-n-Real” and “Lost Groove” hit the listener with a hard edge that screams of lessons learned and experiences—good and bad-- that are etched in the artists mind. “Da Man Last Year” and “What Would U Do” showcase Capers’ subtle side. With smooth beats and lyrical asides, Capers explores the opposite end of the hip-hop spectrum with poise and soul further solidifying his status as an innovator.
