Bio

Capitals is the name of Edinburgh-based musicians Angus Carbarns and Keir MacCulloch. Keir’s former work under the “Araya” saw him release two critically acclaimed, sell-out records through Benbecula Records as well as headline shows at Berlin’s Arena as well as at Lithiuania’s Supynes Festival. Keir’s work under “Araya” has also seen him play alongside many of the most well-respected artists in electronica and minimal techno such as Luke Abbott, Phil Hartnoll (Orbital) and Silicone Soul and Christ (Boards of Canada).

Angus was the founding guitarist and co-writer with “The Cinematics” (TVT Records), a role that saw him undertake UK tours with acts such as We Are Scientists and Editors, before beginning his own electro-rock act Theatre Fall who made their name touring Scotland with acts such as Calvin Harris, as well as playing headline sets at the unsigned stages of both T in The Park and Rockness. Subsequent tours took the band to Norway’s Oya Festival, as well as to Iceland Airwaves – tours which would cement the band as one of Scotland’s finest electro-rock bands.

As their respective projects wound down, the pair relocated to Edinburgh which is where Capitals was born. From that point, the two have worked to create music that is both unique and honest, whilst engaging and interesting – fusing a vast array of organic instruments and computer programmed loops.
