Captain Kubar

Istanbul based trip-hop producer Captain Kubar, released his debut album "Space Camels" in 2018.  "Space Camels" can be described as a combination of trip-hop and traditional eastern instruments like oud, clarinet and zither. Through the course of eleven songs, Captain Kubar experiments on multiple genres such as ambient, trap, reggae and electronica. The sound is not always constant like every trip-hop artist that inspired the album, such as The Gaslamp Killer, Massive Attack and Thievery Corporation. Although the sound shifts through different genres, the usage of eastern instruments is always there and in the end it renders the sound as a whole piece. In a nutshell, it’s an experimentation and a celebration of modern and traditional music both. 

After "Space Camels", Captain Kubar focused on his live performances. He had played gigs at esteemed events and places in Turkey such as Sofar İstanbul, Demonation Festival, Arkaoda, Mentha Nova, Nayah, Mecra and so on. His performances stand out because he's not playing a DJ set of his songs. He plays guitar and synthesizer live and he controls the beats with a live looping setup. The unique improvisation sessions in his live performances transforms the show into a "one of a kind" event every other time. After a year and a half worth of live performances, Captain Kubar compiled the live recordings in an album titled "Hyperspace Travelling". The artist wanted to capture the essence of improvisations in his live performances. "Hyperspace Travelling" also contains 3 previously unreleased songs. 

Currently, the artist is exploring a different path to his music. After 2 albums and various singles that are instrumental, Captain Kubar is now making an album with lyrics. His new album titled "Planet Pop" will be released in the first months of 2020. He released two singles from the album so far, which are available on all digital platforms.
