Captain Jack & Rhino

Captain Jack & Rhino

BandBluesSinger/Songwriter

Traditional Blues in a variety of styles mixing original and cover material.

Biography

Captain Jack & Rhino began performing together in 2004 in ‘The Captain Jack Blues Band’ with Steve Casilio and Michael Roque and as the acoustic duo of ‘Captain Jack & Rhino’.

Captain Jack is a triple threat on harp, slide guitar and sax and often performs with Joe Beard and many other regional and national acts. Because of the demand of his services, you can often find Jack playing in as many bands as there are days of the week.

Rhino, who plays bass and sings lead vocals in the band, switches to guitar (normal and slide) and sings lead vocals. He holds a BS Degree in Music Theory and is the primary composer/arranger for the duet. His performance and writing credits include writing and recording theme/bumper music (“The Breakfast Club Blues”) for Rochester radio station WBZA’s morning radio show, The Breakfast Buzz. He also appeared in the show’s TV commercial performing the song. Additionally, Rhino has his song, "Your Lips Never Moved"; in the NYS Dept. of Education film "Mary's Choice - Teen Pregnancy". Live performances include playing in various bands throughout the eastern United States and Canada.

Along with performing original compositions, on any given night, you may find the Captain Jack & Rhino performing songs of Paul Butterfield, Otis Rush, Van Morrison, Marvin Gaye, Willie Dixon, BB, Albert & Freddie King, Sonny Boy Williamson II, Allman Brothers, Junior Wells, Cephas & Wiggins, Furry Lewis, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee or Santana.

Some of the songs are ones that The Captain Jack Blues Band plays on a nightly basis, but arranged for the more intimate sound of a duet. That doesn’t mean that Captain Jack & Rhino are less powerful or less dynamic than the full band, all that means is that you will hear nuances that you could only hear from a duet.

Steppin' Up

Written By: Steven Keon

Sometimes you’re steppin’ up
Sometimes you’re steppin’ out
It’s at those times
you find what you’re about
And the insides
will always come out

First they think they think
Then they think they know you
They put you in yellow box
Tell them your box is blue
Then they say they don’t know you
Tell them that is nothing new

Some talk of evolution
Some talk creation, too
If God is everything
She can fit in both worlds
But you put God into a box
And wrap it up with a bow

Sometimes it’s everything
Sometimes it’s nothing new
Sometimes it’s the distant
Sometimes it’s just the view
With all this resistance
There’s only one thing you can do

Sometimes you’re steppin’ up
Sometimes you’re steppin’ out
It’s at those times
you find what you’re about
And the insides
will always come out

What Do You Expect But Rain When It Pours

Written By: Steven Keon

If it were yesterday, I’d be unaware
if it were tomorrow, I wouldn’t care
but I’m here and now and then I’m gone
what do you expect but rain when it pours?

They say there’s greater things, up ahead
but they’re just out of reach, when you’re dead
I am here and then I’m gone
what do you expect but rain when it pours?

Such glorious fruits of a misspent youth
the seeds you sew come back in proof
living each moment like it was the last
burning the candle on both ends, round the sides and up the back

When it’s my time to up and die
bury me face down and kiss my ass good bye
But I’m here and now then I’m gone
what do you expect but rain when it pours?

Tried By Twelve

Written By: Steven Keon

She’s not the jealous type. I know she told me so.
I can do what I want as long as it’s just what I’m told
For 5 long years I could do what I want
As long as that meant coming home from work
I stayed out late one night and when I came home
She looked at me and this she spoke

Chorus:
I don’t care if you have your fun
Go ahead on and get yourself some
But in the morning after you get your kicks
I’ll be tried by twelve cause you’ll be carried by six

I could tell by her serious tone
She was a mean business woman and business was good
She went on about how much she cared
But she won’t stand for no messin’ and that’s perfectly clear
I opened my mouth to say a word
And she cut me short and this is what I heard

(Chorus)

I knew that she was good for her word
And if I wasn’t careful, I might just get hurt
She carries around a great big stick
And she’ll lay it on you in no time quick
I’m not in court but she laid down the law
There’s a sheriff in town, judge, jury and all

(Chorus)

Deep In The Night

Written By: Steven Keon

4 A.M. I’m leaving
Where the black fades into sand or I drop
I want to fly

Phone calls, time and distance
One more night is all that I have and then
Watch my back

Tonight, I find.
With you my spirit will ride
With you, my spirit will fly
Deep in the night

Texas morning Monday
Thinking about what’s come to a head is ahead
And not so far behind

Papers, cups and desert
A hole in the ground that’s nine miles wide and a storm
Is on your side

Tonight, I find.
With you my spirit will ride
With you, my spirit will fly
Deep in the night

(Bridge)
Traveling in the darkness is easier on your soul
Sometimes you’ve got to let go
Sometimes you just don’t know

Tuesday night Las Vegas
Neon lights rise out of the sky and dry air
And I’ll be there

Four more hours, forever
Thinking ‘bout what’s left behind is behind
You were on my mind

Tonight, I find.
With you, I’m not so blind
With you, my spirit will fly
Deep in the night
