Bio

Captain Smartypants was discovered by Madame Curie in 1913 as she was emptying a test tube. The radioactive slime mold developed in the Paris sewers until it gained consciousness and crossed the Atlantic. Upon landing in America, this new life form sprouted legs and strode across the continent, singing Partridge Family songs all the while. They settled in Seattle where they became quickly known as ‘Those Nine Homosexuals Who Won’t Stop Singing.’

In 2004, Captain Smartypants toured the Puget sound region performing the show based on their astonishing CD titled UnderCover, which was called ‘… the best CD ever made in the history of music’ by Hyperbole Magazine. UnderCover includes the track 'Believe/I Got You Babe' which features Blake Lewis, currently a top contestant on American Idol. Their 2005 show ‘Camp’ sold out its run at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, and was responsible for Kum Bah Yah hitting #4 the Billboard Chart. 'Trousers of Terror' sold out two weekend runs at Seattle's Re-Bar in June of 2006.

Captain Smartypants has performed with Ann Wilson, Melissa Manchester, Megan Mullally, Kristin Chenoweth and Lea Delaria, and was Seattle’s warm-up act for Margaret Cho when she filmed “The Notorious C.H.O.” in 2002. Captain Smartypants lives in a treehouse in Yelm, where they weave all their own clothing out of wild vines and subsist on roots, berries, and roadkill. Their favorite color is ‘plaid’ and they love long walks along short piers. Eric Lane Barnes, Assistant Artistic Director of Seattle Men’s Chorus, is their trepid leader.
