"Electric Mermaid is Wired for sound"

Rockaway is often host to intriguing and entertaining mystical creatures both on land and sea. Well, get ready for a sensory rush this Saturday, August 20, as Electric Mermaid, a grand eclectic musical event, splashes on stage at Fort Tilden.

Rockaway musician/singer/songwriter/producer Carly J. Deluca-Giardina, who goes by the stage name Carcoda, has assembled a roster of electrifying acts for the musical extravaganza. The music starts at 6 p.m. at the Rockaway Artists Alliance’s T-7 Gallery.

The all star line up includes Kyosi, Uruguay, Twinkles, Leah King, Sam Fuhrer, Jess Labus and Wolf Moon Ghost Blizzard, and Carcoda herself.

“It will be a fun night of music and performance all for a good cause,” she says, “as the artists have volunteered their time. This showcase will help develop our art community here in Rockaway by supporting the Rockaway Artist Alliance.

“These artists have all dedicated their time to making our NYC community better through art, music, and collaboration.”

Carcoda recalls that music has always been a part of her life. “From the minute I could stand I started trying to entertain my family by singing and dancing.”

Later she started singing and making up songs while her father played guitar. He also taught her how to record music on professional equipment. She continued her musical development by learning flute and playing in her middle school stage and marching bands. Beyond a growing interest in music production via computer, she began attending The American Musical and Dramatic Academy for theater and the New School for Creative Art Therapy.

In addition to her busy creative life, she is also currently a NYC Special Education teacher, and has a Master’s Degree in Education.

“The past couple of years I had a band called Kicksonic and performed throughout New York venues including Drom, Pianos, and Fontana’s. The last couple of months I’ve been focusing on my newer band Carcoda and The Wildfire which incorporates original music production, flute, live drums, live guitar, and vocals with harmonies. I have also performed in many shows as a solo artist… For the show on Saturday I will be doing an electronic pop solo set.

“When I play live I include the flute, keyboard, and my voice as an instrument and for lyrics. I sometimes use a loop machine to add depth while using my flute and voice to create a song all by itself.”

Carcoda’s ready for Saturday. “Starting the night off is Jess Labus, a fresh and creative pop country singer/songwriter. Second we have Sam Fuhrer of Sam and Margot, an acoustic singer songwriter that will melt your heart.

“After the acoustic sets there will be Electronic Pop artists who produce and sing their original pop, hip hop, and dance music. First, myself, Carcoda.

“Next, Leah King is a multi-instrumentalist jazz soul singer who uses Logic to create her sound. Her voice is pure velvet. Next we have newly formed hip-hop, pop duo Wolf Moon Ghost Blizzard. Producer Pozibell, former Dubspot radio DJ produces music while rapper singer songwriter Char adds her take on spoken word, and rhymes.

“Then female pop singer songwriter Kyosi performs electronic pop… melodic vocals with Caribbean percussions, and electronic synths. Kyosi recently put out her single ‘Early Riser’.

“Twinkles who comes to us from New Zealand has performed and produced film, theatre and music in NYC… Her sound is electronic with piano-laden ambient sounds and inspiring vocals. Lastly, Uruguay is a transient electronic band created by Stepha Murphy and Benjamin Dawson-Sivalia. Their music features hauntingly beautiful vocal melodies atop driving and atmospheric production…”

Carcoda says come one, come all for Electric Mermaid. “This will be my second performance at RAA and I love the family atmosphere. It is very welcoming. With its open stage you can connect with the audience. I also really enjoy the fact that it is located in one of the best locations in NYC, here in Rockaway where I live!” - Rockaway Times

Bio

Carcoda is a Brooklyn-based Female Artist who creates music. Using multiple talents Carcoda develops her songs with music production. Her ability to produce music electronically and live allows her to find the exact kind of sound and feel for each of her uniquely original songs. Both lyrically and musically her sound is appealing to the electronic, trip hop, and soul music scene. Given her ear for music she began playing with the idea of music production inspired by the works of Aphex Twin, Bjork, and Medski Martin and Wood. With a second hand soundboard and an old-school tape deck her father gave her lessons on production. Music was a way for a cultured Brooklyn kid, ripped out of her element and placed into the country life of Pennsylvania, to pass the time. From that moment on she wrote, and over the next 12 years created countless songs and poems of a young girl struggling to be understood until she received a scholarship to attend a number of acting schools and found her self-back in New York where she truly felt alive. Living in NY ignited her creative insight fueled by experiences while majoring in musical theater at Stella Adler Conservatory at 15, Circle in The Square Theater School at 16, and The American Musical and Dramatic Academy at 17. Her education continued with the New School University with a major in Creative art therapy and psychology and in January 2014 she graduated with her masters in Education from Touro College. Using music to help others she decided to take a step towards humanitarianism while volunteering for some time with the non-profit organization Art Start helping under privileged teens that were recently discharged from Rikers Prison. Her compassion for helping others combined with her passion for creativity and music allowed her to mentor the teens. At the Center for Alternative Sentencing Carly worked beside the talented producer/rappers and teaching artists Akir, and Che Grand as they developed writing programs for the youth to express themselves through Lyrics and poetry and eventually to aid in the creation of a full length CD recorded in the Art Start Music studio. Continuing at art start Carly then used her musical abilities to teach a weekly workshop at NYC family shelters and furthered her work with The Emerging Artist program as she developed a curriculum to help guide at risk youth towards accomplishing their creative goals by developing portfolios, websites, and promotion of the students work. During this busy time Carly was able to Dj her original music productions throughout NYC at such places as The Producers Club, Sutra Lounge, Tender Trap and Mahzen Grill. Continuing her music career she developed her band called Kicksonic and toured as the lead singer at many NYC venues including, Pianos, Drom, Fontana’s, Bar Reis, Sullivan Hall, The Delancey, Otto’s Shrunken Head, Greenpoint Gallery, Output, Tammany Hall, and The Bitter End. Carcoda recently started to involve herself with A music collective and meeting of female music producers and songwriters called Women Beatmakers. Her music can be heard on a collective music production sample challenge @https://soundcloud.com/women-beatmakers. She has recently became part of a monthly music party titled Warper Party. NYC largest electronic art and music showcase. http://warperparty.com/ CARCODA'S latest project Carcoda includes live production, looped vocals, live flute, live drums by Zach Elyshevits and live Guitar by Jorge Naranjo.
