Biography

I've been singing professionally for over 16 years. I started out in the background, singing backing vocals and an occasional full song. I've always LOVED finding those interesting harmonies. But after a while I started to want to sing more, so I found good songs that fit my voice and started taking the chance in front. I started singing songs by Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, Stevie Nicks, and Sheryl Crow, to name a few. I hadn't gotten the urge to write my own material at that time...YET. Years went by, I found myself doing acoustic duos/trios, and even fronting a rock band of my own, still not very interested in writing original songs. But then one day something changed. I started feeling a little empty, like something was missing. Here I was singing other people's songs (and really enjoying it, I must add), but I felt like I had nothing to show for my dedication and hard work, so I started tinkering around with ideas for lyrics. Having majored in English at Rutgers University, with a concentration in writing, I was used to writing short stories and some poetry, but never realized that writing lyrics was an art on its own. My first few attempts, now that I look back, were flops, but at the time I didn't care. It was fun to just get my ideas down on paper. But then I met a new friend, Michael Ghiggeri, and that blossoming friendship and musical partnership would change me as an artist forever. Michael had been given my name some time before as a possible singer for HIS originals. He asked me to come into the studio and record vocals for a few of his original songs. I did, and that's when our collaborative partnership began. We began writing songs together--he would write the melodies, and I concentrated on the lyrics. What resulted was beautiful songs spanning several genres. I have also collaborated with other singer/songwriters, and in the summer of 2006 I will be releasing my debut CD entitled, "Out There."

Out There

Written By: Caren Kennedy

Last night
I had the strangest dream
I was skipping through time recounting what I'd seen
The sky so purple
and the sun so blue
No matter where I went
they'd always see me through.

Out there no paths I crossed were ever the same
People acting a little strange
making me feel all more sane
But I came to realize fast
that I recognized each path
And they clearly define who I am today....

Last night
I had the strangest dream
I had skipped through time
recounted all I'd seen...

Out there no paths I crossed were ever the same
People acting a little strange
making me feel all more sane
But I came to realize fast
that I recognized each path
And they clearly define who I am today....

Out there...
Out there...

Tomorrow Brings

Written By: Caren Kennedy & Michael Ghiggeri

Open your heart so you can breathe again
Don't get stuck in those remember when's
Open up your heart and learn to live again
Wasting another day waiting to begin

Don't be afraid of what tomorrow brings
Get back out there and spread your wings
It's alright to remember the past
Be free to change, be free at last.

Keep your eyes open, life's everything you touch
Take a chance on yourself, you're worth so much
You'll find some imperfections once in a while
No need to fret, all you can do is smile

Don't be afraid of what tomorrow brings
Get back out there and spread your wings
It's alright to remember the past
Be free to change, be free at last.

Looking out to start it all anew
Take it all in stride, it's the best thing you can do
Those old stormy seas aren't here today,
You gave them back to yesterday.

Don't be afraid of what tomorrow brings
Get back out there and spread your wings
It's alright to remember the past
Be free to change, be free at last.

Back Home

Written By: Caren Kennedy

You said you're sorry for what you had done
Said you felt guilty when the morning had come
Wasn't it too late to feel so bad after the day was done?

You say you're sorry for what you have done.
Is that the best you've got now that it's gone?
Now you feel guilty about being sad
after the fire is gone!

Please, Baby, PLEASE
just let me be!
You said you want the best things in life for me.
But when you don't leave me alone
How can I find my way back home?!?

Please, Baby, PLEASE
just let me be!
You said you want the best things in life for me.
But when you don't leave me alone
How can I find my way back home?!?

Remember the time you, YOU wasted away?
I found you hurtin' and lyin' and cheatin' almost every singe day!
Now you worry cuz I'M gone!
I've finally found that I've been worrying too long!
I've been worried too long, but I've finally found...
I've finally found my way...
Now I've finally found my way back home!

I've finally

Set List

A typical set list will include originals (of course) with some covers weaving in and out. I choose covers that compliment my original songs, and from artists that I really enjoy. A typical set will be almost an hour long, and sometimes even longer, depending on the energy of the crowd. I always have a bunch of extra songs in my back pocket...
