Biography

Now on tour in Europe and recently seen performing in the Broadway show "RENT", Caren comes from a large multi-racial family full of jazz & blues singers, musicians & dancers. She's been performing and writing songs since she can remember. At 18, she left Emerson College in Boston to play a lead role on the National Tour of the Broadway show, "Les Miserables". She's been touring with shows across the US, Canada, and Europe since then, continuing to gig out with her own music in clubs and on stages world-wide. Her debut CD is the product of five years of a songwriting partnership between herself and multi-talented bassist Thai Long Ly. Caren looks forward to the day when she can focus solely on touring with her own music, no longer having to support herself with musical theatre gigs.

Lyrics

foolish

Written By: caren lyn manuel

i was living peacefully in my world of chosen misery / and then you had the nerve to come along / i had found my comfort zone taking this world on alone / and then you had the nerve to come on strong/

chorus:
and now you got me, you got me foolish / can't no one stop me from going through this / and now you got me, you got me foolish / can't nobody stop me, i got love for you.

thought that love was all the same, got so tired of playing games / and then you had the nerve to turn me out / love so deep i have to cry / i've never been so satisfied / since you had the nerve to work me out /

chorus:

since you came along and worked me / since you came along and worked me out

chorus:
(repeat)

denial

Written By: caren lyn manuel

where do you expect to go that way? it's slow that way / and what is it you finally got through now that the day is done? / aren't you getting tired of trying to defend yourself? Befriend yourself. / You say 'I only give my love to the few i feel it from'/ what a broad statement. you don't even see the irony of your words / you're the type who'll sit in silence and claim there's nothing to be heard /

Chorus: Is that denial?

Staring out the windowsill, hoping something will materialize / but afraid to try and figure out which road to take / got beyond that fear of how it'd look to fault in someone else's eyes / now i don't judge my failure by the mistakes i make. / what a road to nowhere. i didn't start living until i asked the question / what a waste of time, i thought, for up until then it was self-prevention /

Chorus:

Now we're in the desert wild, not a sound for miles / but your brow is set like all you hear are screams inside / i sure wish you'd elect to hear my perspective dear / for i see someone magickal, if not a little shy / do you need a mother to open up a world brand new for you to see ? / in your second childhood, i'll be all that i can, and then know that you can be what you want to be/

chorus:

360

Written By: caren lyn manuel

i hear from you, the hollow sounds / of a tired soul who's been bounced around / well, i've been there, baby, i've had my downs and outs / and love that promised water led me to draught / if you want my honest opinion / i'd say it's time to go back to the beginning / do you want me to love you, do you want to set you free / then careful how you're spinning in your 360 degrees

chorus:
if this is where your life has left you / whatcha gonna do, you gonna cry about it? / if this is where your choices kept you / whatcha gonna do, you gonna whine about it? / if it's your actions that upset you / whatcha gonna do, you gonna lie about it? / than it's your will to let it wreck you / so whatcha gonna do, you gonna live inside it?

so take my hand now, and feel me deep / and what you find inside, take it, it's yours to keep / the beauty that you see in me, it comes from your affection / for we live in a life of endless reflection / if you want my honest reaction / if you don't know why you can't get no satisfaction / if you spend most of your life down on your knees / then careful how you're spinning in your 360 degrees

chorus:

spoken: i've struggled in the rubble of a life i called unfair / it was a comfort to be lonely and pretend that no one cared / well a person only gives what she's capable of taking / and little did i know it was my own heart i was breaking / now i flow with the song of my soul's special promise / no matter what you're dealing with to thine own self be honest / for in order to control the manifestations in your life / it's you ya gotta know, child, it's you ya gotta like.

if you want my honest reaction / if you don't know why you can't get no satisfaction / do you want me to love you? do you want to set you free? then careful how you're spinning in your 360 degrees.

chorus: (2x)

whatcha gonna do, you gonna cry about it?
