"Guitar Player Magazine Spotlight"

Carl's high-energy contemporary style is similar to Van Halen's, with an aggressive attitude that separates him from the pack. He utilizes a full array of contemporary techniques including speed picking, arpeggios, and pinched harmonics. His wide vibrato, whammy-bar licks, and natural phrasing are impressive.

Carl started playing guitar when he was eight, but he didn't take the instrument seriously until three years later. When he was 14, Carl witnessed a rock concert by Van Halen and Talas, which inspired him to work harder at playing and practicing. Today, Carl teaches at the Atlanta Institute of Music and is a clinician for Ovation. He has authored two method books with accompanying cassettes for Alfred Publishing. Carl has also transcribed material from Joe Satriani, Vinnie Moore, and Metallica for Cherry Lane Music. "I'd like to complete work on an original recording project, assemble an incredible live band, and take every opportunity I can find to make it," he remarks. - Mike Varney
