Bio

Carleigh Aikins is defining the creative artist of the 21st century. She is recreating the mold. A true “renaissance woman” for our time. Not only is she a professionally trained vocalist she is also a passionate self taught artist, whose enthusiasm and zest for life comes through in all facets of her creative endeavours. As with all new artists, dues must be paid and Carleigh has been paying hers as a female vocalist with much to offer. Coming from a back ground in theatre ( appearing at The Barrie Jazz Festival, Orillia Opera House and the Gryphon Theatre,) as the resident female backup vocalist at Barrie, Ontario’s Onestar Studios, Carleigh was featured with various artists on many projects. She worked with one of Barrie, Ontario’s most beloved bands the Heat on their debut release " Last Summer Again', with producer Matt Murphy of the Superfriendz and the Flashing Lights, and soon thereafter Carleigh became a member of 'The Syndicate'. The five-piece toured Ontario for a year and a half sharing the bill with acts such as Cheerleader, Protest the Hero, the Black Maria and Ten Foot Pole. Now, Carleigh is front and centre with her own band and a full repertoire co-written with Fight Like Gentlemen's, Brett Caswell. Her amazing vocal ability and stage presence is attracting fans everywhere she plays. Her passion for music and performing comes
across loud and clear in her recordings and live shows. Carleigh made her debut with an
explosive performance opening for Canadian heroes the Constantines, and Fight Like Gentlemen at a packed show in Barrie, November 2003. From the country-esque hooks of "Last Time You Flew" to the heart wrenching in your face rock of "Now My
Friend You Echo Here" Carleigh throws her passion and emotion into her
performances. Her songs are close to her heart. They often relate personal experiences
about love lost, love gained and lessons learned. The audience rises and falls on the melodies and
lyrics of her eclectic set comprised of hard hitting rock songs and sultry melodic
blues ballads. Taking her audience on a roller coaster ride of emotion.
She has just come out of the studio where she recorded a three song EP called "Rough Cuts of Broken Hearts" which serves as a small taste of what is to come on her new CD. Carleigh's set mix of Alt.country, power pop, rock and blues sound is a unique and fresh one to the scene. Her songs are sure to make an indent with their catchy hooks driven home by a voice that sounds like Janis Joplin kicked Belinda Carlisle's ass. Carleigh Aikins is breaking new ground and continues to surprise audiences with her refreshing sound, and that suits her just fine.
