Lyrics

Mi Lelolai A Mi Yaweh

Written By: Carlos Olmeda

Synopsis:

In essence, “ Mi Lelolai A Mi Yaweh” is a prayer of supplication.

After seeing the film 'Blood Diamond' I sat wondering to myself
what it must be like to be a child soldier returning home after experiencing the horrors of civil war.

I wondered how long it would take before the adrenaline of combat would give way to the depression, despair and yearning to return home to mother, father and family.

Every culture seems to have children soldiers to some degree or other. The idea that peace and love is a pipe dream for the uneducated or the delusional has plagued us from the beginning.

The chorus of the song is in Spanish.

It translates to: Dear God, may you hear your little song of love.
Please accept this little song of love.
I'm coming home.
Embrace me,
Come Come Come,
Embrace me...

Lyrics:

Lelolai A Mi Yaweh

Mama, I don't wanna kill no more...
Not for a hill of gold or a hill of beans.
Not for my love of the speed of light
or shiny things
Salvation or Sin.
And certainly not for peace.

Ay! mi lelolai mi Jahweh!
Oye su lelolai, mi Jahweh!
Tenga su lelolai, mi Jahweh!
Vuelvo! Abrazame!
Ven, ven, ven, Abrazame!

Maybe I shouldn't talk so much.
Goin' on about who I am and who I'm not.
One of these days if I could learn to shut my mouth
the universe might shout exactly what I'm about!

Ay! mi lelolai mi Jahweh!
Oye su lelolai, mi Jahweh!
Tenga su lelolai, mi Jahweh!
Vuelvo! Abrazame!
Ven, ven, ven, Abrazame!

And oh, what a cool sunny day
you know it would be!
And ah, what a bright shiny jewel
for our little children...

Please just let them walk into the shade;
Throw their tiny hands up in the air,
Do a little dance if they please,
get up off of their knees
to the God of their dreams!

Ay! mi lelolai mi Jahweh!
Ojalah Oye su lelolai, mi Jahweh!
Tenga su lelolai, mi Jahweh!
Vuelvo! Abrazame!
Ven, ven, ven, Abrazame!

So they can say:
Mama! I ain't gonna kill no more!
Not for a hill of gold or a hill of beans!
Not for my love of the speed of light or shiny things!
High Priests, Presidents,
or High Tone Kings and Queens!
