Bio
Carlton is a pop/rock trio based in Los Angeles. They started playing together in 2009 under the name Mercury in Summer in the Washington, D.C. area where they all grew up. They formed a strong musical bond over the years adopting a DIY mentality, self-producing and releasing 5 separate EP's. They were able to work with some heavy hitters in the music industry including jam-band legend John Molo (Phil Lesh and Friends, John Fogerty, Moonalice), engineer/producer Ross Hogarth (Jimmy Eat World, Sick Puppies, Van Halen), and engineer/producer Dave Way (Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Spice Girls). They eventually decided to relocate the group to the west coast for a fresh start in a new location under a new name. Carlton, comprised of Richard Wynne (Vocals, Guitar), Brian Jones (Bass), and Brendan McCusker (Drums) play pop songs with grooves and arrangements spanning many styles of music, from groovy Motown inspired drum beats, to intricate african 6/8 . "We don't want to limit ourselves musically. We just want to do whatever best fits the song" said McCusker. Even though they characterize themselves as a pop group, they put a heavy emphasis on improvisation and experimentation in their live shows - no two shows will ever be the same. Carlton's debut LP "Stretching" will be available October 2012.
