"There are songs of sweetness and light for the head and heart, but there also songs of grit and groove that make those little hairs on the back of your neck stand up and scream, 'give me more of that!' Is it working for them? I believe so." (The Charlottetown Guardian)

Biography

"There are songs of sweetness and light for the head and heart, but there also songs of grit and groove that make those little hairs on the back of your neck stand up and scream, 'give me more of that!' Is it working for them? I believe so." (The Charlottetown Guardian)

Anchored in a sound influenced by roots, soul, jazz, contemporary folk, and pop sensibilities, Carly and Mark have a highly palatable sound that is unmistakably their own. The band first made strides as a Kitchener-based acoustic duo coupling the forte of Mark Hart (guitar and vocals) and Carly Blasutti (vocals). In 2008 the duo grew to include the radiant additions of colleagues Bret Higgins (upright bass – also of The Great Lake Swimmers, Basia Bulat), Joshua Van Tassel (drums – also of Valery Gore, David Myles), and Joel Schwartz (National guitar and mandolin – also of The Great Lake Swimmers, Royal Wood). Currently Toronto and Kitchener-based, the five-piece culminates years of musical study, experience, cross-genre appetite, and ingenuity into a seamlessly moving collaboration with many endearing parts. Presently the band is hard at work crafting material for their sophomore release, which will be placed in the careful hands of highly touted producer/engineer David Travers-Smith.

Carly and Mark hit the ground running with their 2008 release 'New City Morning', a stunning album described as "Sheer Acoustic Beauty" by indieheart.com. The album's lead track 'Morning Light Praying' was named best folk song of 2008 by Toronto Exclusive Magazine, included in the Toronto Star's coveted 'Anti-Hit List' and featured as a top 5 selection by Songwriter Universe Magazine. The band has received lots of love from CBC and Campus radio and has earned 4 Toronto Independent Music Award nominations including “Best Folk’, 'Best Song', 'Best Live', and 'Best Female Fronted'.

Lyrics

Melt You

Written By: Carly And Mark

light creeps in as we beging
setting out to take it all in
(breathing just for you)

waiting for the moment when
it creeps out and we're crepping in again
(seeing only you)

Show me how to melt....
You

Dreamin' Of

Written By: Carly and Mark

You go into my secret place
and read the words i wrote today
you get these ideas inside your brain
and while I can't say the rest out loud......

You know i love you.........
and i'm livin' for you..
sometimes i just don't like you at all
i don't know ..... and here we go

Pull open the window shade
because today is a brand new day
these kinds of things are so hard to say ........
well i'm sorry i said those things about your mother

You know i love you.........
and i'm livin' for you..
sometimes i just don't like you at all
i don't know and here we go

Now we've said all we have to say
all of our problems just melt away
i got this feelin' we'll be okay
at least until the next time

Oooh yeah i've been dreamin' of
the day when you and me can simply wander off
just pack our bags get in the car and go
how about Mexico?

Just In Time

Written By: Carly and Mark

I ain't losin' no more,
and I feel it every time you look my way
and I feel all the sweetest things in life
like you beeing here tonight,
and I know that we made it right ... just in time

I'm feelin' forward again,
one foot in front of the other one
and i feel much too tired to chase the light
so I just stay inside,
and I hope your train arrives on time

I ain't losin' no more,
and I feel it every time you look my way
and I feel much too tired to chase the light
so I just stay inside,
and I hope your train arrives on time

Morning Light Praying

Written By: CarlyBlasutti

Momma swaying
To a quiet song playing
This is morning light praying
And it feels alright

It's tall grass dancing in the breeze
When two become many and you're living a dream
Forever is a long time
But it feels alright

And you can bring
To all these things
A little bit of light
With that twinkle in your eye

It's a new city morning
And the whistle's blowing
And it's moving all around you
But you'll be just fine

And you get up early to meet the sun
'Cause you ain't gonna miss a thing to come
Later I'll chase you down
And we'll make some time

And you can bring
To all these things
A little bit of light
Just being by my side

With the radio saying
It'll soon be raining
You can come on in baby it's warm inside
I should have know better you wouldn't listen to me
But I hold you tightly and fix your knee
Spin you 'round and sit you down
Hey your just fine

And you can bring
To all these things
A little bit of light
Just being by my side

Brilliant Blue

Written By: Carly Blasutti

Before the ocean became the sand
No lines and no plans
When there was no music there was no rhyme
No truth and no lies
Well back in the time of the Brilliant Blue
When the sky and the sea knew
What the unfolding of time would do

Refrain:
And I
You know I feel something changing
‘Cause this time is the meantime
And we’re living on the outside
And I feel something breaking
With all the time left today

Before a woman, before a man
No measure with no hands
When the rhythm was made by the life it gave
The sun danced as the tune played
Well back in the time of the brilliant moon
When Heaven and Earth knew
What the unfolding of time would do

Refrain

There’s peace in the love you save
Bliss in the pounding of the rain
Stillness in the Brilliant Blue
In the perfect place when time was new

Refrain

And it’s this way to beauty
And that way to blindness
All alone in compassion and abandoned in kindness
And we join together when what’s left here is mindless
And the enemies and lovers are the ties that bind us

And it’s this way to riches so you guard it with fire
And you get a little more and you build your wall a little higher
And we join together for a symphony of silence
When pirde persists fail to exist and all this will just get in the way

Now I know I feel something changing
‘Cause this time is the meantime
And we’re living on the outside
And I feel something breaking
With all the time left today

Where To Begin

Written By: Mark Hart

I don't know when to come in
I don't know when to come in
I don't know how to come down
I don't know how to come down

High as I am
And cold as I am
I don't now when to come in

I don't know where to begin
I don't know where to begin
'Cause I don't know where you been
I don't know where you been

High as I am
And cold as I am
I don't know where to begin

Move Me

Written By: Carly Blasutti, Mark Hart

I got some ways you can't figure out
And I've done some things you could live without
I've answered questions you didn't ask
And I beg you now 'cause my past is past
And I want you to

Take your hands
And put them on me
I know that we can't make this right but I need you to move me
So put them on me baby
I know that we can't make this right but I need you to move me

Ideal love in an ideal circumstance
I don't have time for holding hands
Former dreams of love are blind
And I know that what I'm asking is on your mind

What I am is what I wanna be
Lets take some time for discovery
So come on in and end this suffering
'Cause i can show you so many things
And I want you to

Take your hands
And put them on me
I know that we can't make this right but I need you to move me
So put them on me baby
I know that we can't make this right but I need you to move me

Now it's late are you gonna stay
I don't think there's much left to say
So get down and make my wish come true
Lets do those things that we need to do

If I tell you what I want
Would you give me what I need
'Cause I got this feeling inside of me

So take your hands
And put them on me
I know that we can't make this right but I need you to move me
So put them on me baby
I know that we can't make this right but I need you to move me
