Bio

‘Carnaval de Buenos Aires’ is a unique project of Tango, Jazz & Movie, produced by the Dutch Quinteto Tango Extremo, featuring two guest soloists; guitarist Gustavo Mozzi and percussionist Facundo Guevara: two Argentinean key players from Buenos Aires, Argentina. These Dutch and Argentinean musicians met each other via the Womex (!) 2004 in Essen and have been playing together ever since! The seven strong formation realizes a very exciting meltingpot of Tango, Jazz and Movie about the legendary 'Carnival of Buenos Aires'.

The music for this project is delivered by our guitarist Gustavo Mozzi (Latin Grammy Award Winner 2006 in the category ‘Best Tango Album’ and ‘Best Packaging’!). In practically every song, there is space for improvisation: a typical jazz characteristic which is indissolubly attached to Quinteto Tango Extremo.
The music will be a tribute to the Carnival of Buenos Aires and during the concert, nostalgic and unique images of a Carnival celebrating Buenos Aires, at the beginning of the last century will be shown. This movie will be projected on a big see-through screen or if possible a big white wall.

Gustavo Mozzi, born, raised and still resident of Buenos Aires is one with the different musical styles and has used them in his own compositions for this project.

Facundo Guevara is a well known musician in Argentina and is the steady percussionist of legends like Mercedes Sosa and Pedro Aznar.

Since her creation in 2003 the Dutch Quinteto Tango Extremo has gone through a development that you could at least call 'remarkable'. The group has a very distinctive own sound and their repertoire is influenced by many styles of music; Jazz, Brazilian, Classical, Gypsy, but always with the Argetinean Tango that serves at the base. Besides being well-known at all Dutch venues the ensemble has toured Spain, Italy, UK, Belgium, Turkey, UK, México and South Korea and in summer 2009 the group will be guest of honour at the Buenos Aires Tango Festival, Argentina. The group has produced four albums so far for Munich Records, Maxanter Records and Sundisc Records and is published in Holland, Argentina, Japan and Taiwan.
