Bio

CarnivalEra is:
Ross Hastings (lead vocalist/guitarist/pianist/songwriter) has played in bands in Glasgow and Australia since the 90s, and has recorded as a solo artist in Canada before joining CarnivalEra.
Chelsea Crawford (lead vocalist/pianist/guitarist/songwriter) released her debut album in 2001 and has since established a name for herself as a solo artist.
Chris Mortensen (bassist/slide guitar/backup vocals) has a background touring throughout North America with various bands since the 90s.
Spencer Watts (drummer/backup vocals) is relatively new to the music community but an experienced performer as host of his own television cooking show.
The fact that Chelsea and Ross are still arguing not only over the content of the bio but on how to use the various tools offered by the word-processor gives one an immediate insight into CarnivalEra. The verbal sparring between the two lead vocalists and principal songwriters are well-known by fans to manifest themselves in (mostly) humorous onstage debates.
Luckily, in CarnivalEra we are all friends. We could talk about how our musical influences drew us together, but in truth we discovered our mutual status as musicians over many nights of gin martinis, gourmet cooking and smoking Djarums during 4am discussions. Band practice still begins and ends this way but now includes several hours of homage to classic songwriting, film soundtrack and the highlights of twentieth century American writing. We call our sound Bohemian Pop; and are described by one of our regular venue owners as “torch-pop-swing-rock-jazz-indie with gorgeous harmonies, solid songwriting and intelligent lyrics”.
CarnivalEra emerged as a fully-grown band last summer (2009) and have since October extended our lifestyle to include a steadily growing fan-base. If you are at a CarnivalEra show, you are at one of our parties, you are traditionally aged anywhere between 18 and 80, and we are probably going to become friends.
