Carolina Hayride

Carolina Hayride is an exciting five-piece bluegrass band from the Columbia, SC area. They gather around an old-style condenser microphone with acoustic instruments to get an authentic sound, blending driving rhythm, skillful instrumental work, and tight harmony vocals in the “high lonesome” tradition.

They perform classic songs from the golden age of bluegrass- the original Americana music. Carolina Hayride brings the experience and enthusiasm of five seasoned musicians from different musical backgrounds, including classical training, country, southern rock, and rockabilly. These varied influences add depth to the music that comes through in energetic live performances.

The band features Chris Beckham on mandolin and vocals, Haley Calore on fiddle, Matt Conner on 5-string banjo, Darryl Jones on guitar and vocals, and David Owen anchoring the sound with solid electric bass. This combination results in lively shows with solid rhythm, fiery mandolin, Scruggs-style banjo licks, flatpicked guitar leads, incredible fiddle tone, and clear, close harmony vocals.

Since forming in 2008, Carolina Hayride has built a diverse repertoire of dozens of songs, including standards by Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin, Ricky Skaggs, and the Stanley Brothers, and other pioneers of bluegrass. They also incorporate songs from other genres played in bluegrass style, including songs by Queen, Willie Nelson, Old Crow Medicine Show, and others.

These five musicians work hard at every show to connect with the audience and are one of the most popular bluegrass bands in the area. The musicianship, stage presence, and fresh approach to bluegrass that respects the traditions of genre always makes their shows interesting and keeps fans coming back.
