Bio

Singer Carolyn Martin has been described as “… a winning throwback to the days where emotion was measured and artful rather than loud and histrionic.” From European concert halls to intimate venues at home in Nashville, fans have come to know Carolyn as a a vocalist with a unique sense of musical style, a charismatic stage presence and a voice that exudes passion and experience – the soulful elegance that is the very essence of music.

Carolyn Martin is a native Texan who has lived in Nashville for many years. She began singing professionally while growing up in Abilene, and began traveling and performing throughout Texas and the rest of the US a few years later. Settling in Nashville in 1985, she has had the pleasure of working with many of the most talented musicians and singers in the world – both live and in the studio. In 2000, Carolyn was invited to become a member of Nashville’s Time Jumpers, whose latest recording, “Jumpin’ Time”, has garnered two Grammy nominations.

Carolyn has long been a fan of the music of the 1940’s and 1950’s, and her recent project, “The Very Thought Of You” reflects her love of the standards repertoire. "The Very Thought of You", contains fifteen songs; some timeless classics, some little known gems, plus a couple of new compositions from two of Nashville's finest songwriters. "The Very Thought of You" also features Andre Reiss on guitar, pianists Beegie Adair and Lori Mecham, Roger Spencer on bass, Bob Mater on drums, plus trombonist Billy Huber as a special guest soloist on “I Wanna Be Around (To Pick Up The Pieces)”. Carolyn’s distinctively deep, rich, and smooth voice lends itself perfectly to the material of this era.

Those who grow up in West Texas grow up with the sound of Bob Wills and Western Swing, and Carolyn is no different; with her latest project, “Swing”, she proves the adage that Western Swing is ‘really big band jazz with fiddles instead of horns’. Carolyn does exactly that, adding fiddles and steel guitars to some of her favorite swing tunes, including Louis Armstrong’s “When You’re Smiling”, Bing Crosby’s 1930 hit “Three Little Words” and the classic “Exactly Like You”, as well as recording some of her favorite western swing classics and a few brand new songs. “Swing” showcases Carolyn in the finest Texas tradition, along with many of her favorite musicians, and features guest performances by “Ranger Doug” Green Green from the Grammy winning Riders in the Sky and Western Swingers vocalist John England.
