CARRIED BY WAVES: BIOGRAPHY

The sound of CARRIED BY WAVES has been described by critics as "sublime, beautifully crafted, euphoric organic-electro pop music" (see above). It is an Irish based, audio/visual project and the product of a life long obsession with an eclectic range of musical influences. The music itself is a collage of layered guitars, synths and vocals, fused with complex drum rhythms, and hynotic bass loops.

2011 was CARRIED BY WAVES' first year of existence, and it was a year marked by considerable progress. A debut show in January was closely followed by a performance as part of Ireland's 'First Music Contact' tour, and in August they were among the acts chosen to play at the 'Hard Working Class Heroes' festival in Dublin (and once again in 2012). This run of shows was topped off in September of the same year by a slot at the internationally acclaimed music festival 'Electric Picnic' in Co. Laois.
These performances gained critical acclaim with the likes of leading Irish magazine 'Hot Press', as well as various online blogs such as 'Entertainment.ie', 'Drop-D', and 'We Are Noise' among others (see above for more national & international press), and led to an artist profile segment on prominent Dublin radio station 'Phantom FM'. In addition, various 'Carried By Waves' tracks received regular national airplay on 2FM show “The Alternative”. The year was rounded off by a live recording session at 2FM for the same show.

2012 began with both 'Hot Press' & 'Heinekenmusic.ie' tipping 'Carried By Waves' as "one to watch", and in July 2012 a debut album entitled 'Softly Held Together' was featured as Dan Hegarty's “album of the week” on 2FM. In addition to the latter radio exposure, songs from the album were also featured on the Jenny Huston show (2FM), I-Con (Phantom Fm), Dublin's 98fm, as well as various other radio stations nationwide. This acclaim was bolstered by a string of successful nationwide shows, performing with various high profile Irish acts (e.g. R.S.A.G, Le Galaxie, Squarehead, and Funeral Suits among others), as well as a headline slot at the 'Indiependence' festival in Mitchelstown.

Shortly after, a music licensing deal was signed with New York company MuseIQ, and a single 'Parting Speech' was released by Vienna-based record label 'Audio-Kult'. In addition 'Carried By Waves' was also handpicked by internet music giants 'Soundcloud' as their 'Soundclouder Of The Day' (November 15th 2012). To top of 2012 “Softly Held Together” featured at number 4 in a 2fm list of the “Top 100 Irish Albums Of The Year", and to begin 2013 with a bang 'Hot Press' featured 'Carried By Waves' in their “Hot For 2013 (30 Irish Acts You Must Hear”) list . Summer 2013 saw performances at the Vantastival and Castlepalooza festi
