"Brite Winter 2014 Interview: Carrie Ryan"

"Interplaying bittersweet folk and captivating, sparse piano-pop, Carrie Ryan made her debut at 18 with the coming-of-age tales on her debut, This Road. A creative writer at heart, she took her scribe to task by honing her storytelling into the release of a succession of EPs and singles over the past two years." - Brite Winter

"Carrie Ryan at the Grog Shop: Local YouTube sensation gets darker on new single"

"'Ashes' is jarring compared to the more upbeat tunes Ryan, 21, has released over the past two years. The song is an amazing, haunting piano-ballad where Ryan sings, 'You set me on fire, ashes to ashes is all that's left of me.'" - Cleveland.com

"Cleveland Sessions: Singer-songwriter Carrie Ryan performs her new song 'Ashes'"

The track, "Ashes," is a dark piano-ballad that talks about what's left (or lack there of) after suffering a personal loss. Up until now, most of Ryan's material has featured upbeat melody with lyrics about relationships and breakups. She compares her early work to Taylor Swift. - Cleveland.com

"2014 Brite Winter festival: 15 songs you have to hear from this year's bands"

"The pain imbedded in Carrie Ryan's music comes as much from her voice as much as it does the heartbreaking lyrics. Ryan's voice is very different in its ability to take the listener on a journey." - Cleveland.com

Bio

Carrie Ryans talents lie in breaking hearts and getting her own heart broken. Never has this been more evident in her latest EP This Year. Exuding with a can-do spirit noted by Cleveland's Scene Magazine, she spends many nights locked in her bedroom where she writes, records and self-produces all of her work. Her music has broken through her bedroom walls and reached an international audience through Youtube, iTunes, Amazon and Spotify.

Although she lives and performs in Cleveland, OH, Carries music career began at sixteen on Youtube. Her most popular video, a cover of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros Home, has surpassed 50,000 views. Since then, she has gained nearly 700 subscribers from all over the world and continues to post covers and original music on her channel.

Spurred by the terror of graduating high school and breaking up with her highschool sweetheart, Carrie recorded her first album This Road at 18. It has attracted attention from many music blogs, allowing her to establish herself as a singer-songwriter. She regularly plays shows around the Cleveland area, most recently playing for Great Lakes Brewing Company's 25th anniversary block party. In June 2013, Carrie opened for Shakey Graves, Marmalakes and Wild Child during their national tour.

Carrie currently studies creative writing at Cleveland State University. Her flash fiction and creative nonfiction has been published in Spry Literary Magazine and Freerange Nonfiction. She melds together her musician and writer identities by emphasizing the use of sound and word play within her writing. She hopes to continue to write while chasing after her music career.
