"Artomatic Performer Interview"

My name is Carsten Kranzer originally from Montreal, Quebec but did many years of my schooling in the DC area. After finishing music school in Boston I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area which is where I’m still based today. Since debuting my first solo album, Sideways Blink, I’ve been seen on stages throughout the Bay Area as well as popular LA hot spots like Hotel Cafe. Filmmakers and fans may know me from the 2014 and 2015 Sundance Film Festival weeks, where I played several venues throughout Park City and performed and was interviewed live on Park City Television. And most recently I’ve been touring the east coast including a stop at Artomatic!

My music is reminiscent of all the styles and genres that have inspired me throughout my life. Quite varied, they range from eerie ethereal ballads to hard driving, rhythmic, groove inspired tunes.

What is your favorite part of the Artomatic experience so far?
The people I’ve met have been my most favorite part of Artomatic. Yes Artomatic is an amazing undertaking, showcasing and celebrating artists of all kinds in a big way. But the more I play music, the more I love how art just brings people together. The good will I’ve shared with others being a musician is priceless and profound. Artomatic facilitates this and I love it!

Canadian singer Carsten Kranzer uses intense, laid-back riffs to create the authentic “The Tug of War“, a song that perfectly balances hard rock elements with classic rock groove to create a complete, charismatic and fun song. The artist's vocals are not far behind and present a perfect harmony and energy combined with the song's instrumental. Listen up. - Rocknbold.com

"Carsten Kranzer "The Tug of War""

Carsten Kranzer is getting played by mind games on his single “Tug of War.”

The track struggles to find honesty in a relationship. It’s trying to uncover the truth behind the lies. Lines like “You say it’s all good, but I know it’s not the truth” give the impression that there is something more to what is actually being said. Kranzer’s vocals also evoke the skepticism of the lyrics.

The rock song puts instruments on display. It begins with an emphatic pounding of the drums. The track has a long instrumental open that doesn’t break until about the one minute mark when the vocals kick in. That’s where the Montreal native’s descriptive lyrics and vocals shine. - Gas Mask Magazine

Carsten Kranzer's songs are reminiscent of all the styles and genres that have inspired him throughout his life. Quite varied, they range from eerie ethereal ballads to hard driving, rhythmic, groove inspired tunes.

Originally from Montreal, Quebec and born to international parents, Carsten started his performing career before he could talk. As a toddler he would start dancing in restaurants and public places whenever he heard music. At five, he started playing the family organ by ear. Soon after, he began his formal music studies with classical piano, percussion in the school orchestra, and participation in local choruses. In high school his love of music continued as he picked up the guitar and started singing in a rock band. However, it wasn't until two years into his college education that he realized his desire to follow his musical calling exclusively, prompting him to quit his engineering studies and transfer to Berklee College of Music. There he focused his attention on world music, including the rhythms of West Africa, and was introduced to the jazz and funk universe. After finishing his degree he drove across the country to another Berkeley where he spent time as a guitarist in the jazz/funk instrumental trio, Drunken Cat Paws, before branching out on his own.

Since debuting his first solo album, Sideways Blink, Carsten has been seen on stages throughout the bay area as well as popular LA hotspots like Hotel Cafe. Filmmakers and fans may know him from the 2014 and 2015 Sundance Film Festival weeks, where he played several venues throughout Park City and performed live on Park City Television.
