Carter Wilson is heating the region up with his new album titled !!!!!. The multifaceted Tacoma-based rapper and singer has been on his grind for a minute. Over the past year he’s dropped multiple projects and singles. He’s looking to build off the platform he’s already built for himself. Wilson’s latest project showcases his artistry executed at the highest level.
His album !!!!! is packed full of bangers that effectively present his diverse yet developed sound. One of the highlights is the production of his vocals. With this project having a wide variety of beat selections, it can be easy to have the cohesiveness slip. That doesn’t happen in this case, as his vocals are the cohesive glue throughout. This can be heard with his layered vocals that are packed full of punchlines and creative lyrics. The production enhances this element – with the mixing being reminiscent of Schoolboy Q’s vocals on Oxymoron.
Carter Wilson’s album has an expansive 21 song track list. Because of this, it is difficult to pick certain songs to highlight due to the sheer length and diversity that each track provides. Every song truly has its own character and sound. With that said, early favorites are “Good God”, “Mitsubishi Box”, “Talk Talk”, and “Hollywood.” As a result, he’s an up and coming artist in Seattle that cannot be slept on. Carter Wilson (born March 7th, 1994) is an Afro-Indigenous interdisciplinary artist, born in Oakland, CA.
A self-proclaimed “champion of authentic expression”, he creates genre-less psychedelic music, blending vivid lyrical imagery with intricate rhyme schemes and colorful melodies. While Carter Wilson's sound is flush with hip-hop and trip-hop elements, his signature vocal-layering style adds a particular power to his music that is impossible to miss. His early influences include Mac Miller, Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, Outkast, and Portishead.
