Bio

Cartier King is a twenty -year old artist residing in the East Bay area. He attended the Oakland School for the Arts where he was trained in vocal music and music theory. He was in the award-winning Concert Choir at the school and was also in the schools band "Osa Combo". He was accepted into The American Musical and Dramatic Academy but chose to pursue his career. Singing is nothing new to Cartier. He has sung from an early age and began his formal training singing in church at the tender age of two. Cartier has toured France twice with his church worship group where he was also a featured soloist in multiple performances. He also has performed in Maxwells, a well known jazz club in downtown Oakland, on numerous occasions. There he has shared the stage with Bay Area artists Dhario Wonder, Marcel Hutton, and Ryah Nicole in the Strive for More Music Showcase. He has also performed in Oaklands Art and Soul festival opening for Guapele and Tower of Power. Cartier has also done extensive studio work, writing and singing hooks for local artists in a variety of genres. Among these are Dakool, Queja, Cassie, Anais, and Frozen. Music has been an essential part of Cartiers life, upbringing, and professional experience. His mother, a gifted jazz singer, and his father, a tenor saxophone player exposed Cartier to many genres of music as a child. These ranged from jazz, gospel , R&B, and Classic Rock from the 60s and 70s. This exposure to a wide array of music has given Cartier the tools and wisdom to cultivate his own sound. Now Cartier is ready to share his sound with the world. With influences like Nat Cole, Bob Marley, Jimmy Hendrix, and Herbie Hancock, Cartier not only demonstrates his amazing musicianship through performance, but also through his songwriting and arranging chops. From singing to producing, Cartier works hands-on to create his own unique sound and style. "I realy wanted to show that I am diverse" Cartier explains. "I don't only like one genre. I don't believe in sticking to one genre, or playing by the rules and i try to show that in my music."
