Bio
Cary "CKP" Kanno is a musical journeyman and jack of all musical trades. Based out of Chicago IL, he formed and continues to play with locally successful bands the Abstract Giants, and Doko Benjo. In search of fresh creative outlet in 2009 he simultaneously released two solo full length albums simply called "Cary Kanno One" and "Cary Kanno Two". Reception to the records were overwhelmingly positive. They were played on over 150 radio stations worldwide, and the album subsequently charted on the CMJ charts of many of those. Songs from the record were picked up and licensed by the ABC network, Kellogs, WE Network, MTV, and he was comissioned to write a song for the show “Weeds” on Showtime. The latest release from Cary, “Changes” features an array of musical guests which comprise his live touring band. They include some of the most talented and experienced musicians from the Chicago music scene. In a live setting they wow audiences with impressive chops and incessant grooves. Because of their versatility they appeal to a wide array of audiences from casual older listeners to young music enthusiasts.
Cary has opened for many well known acts including: Rusted Root, Gabriela y Rodrigo, Robert Randolph, The Gza, The Rza, Lyrics Born, Mr. Lif, Buckwheat Zydeco, Jean Gray, DJ Z-Trip, The Redwalls, Poi Dog Pondering, Eyedea, Andrew Bird, Bernie Worrell, Doomtree, Del the Funky Homosapien, and many more.
