Casaca

Formed in January 2000 in Vila Velha, Casaca is basically a regional group of pop-rock, and today it’s one of the biggest references in Espiríto Santo´s music.
With six albums released, it´s targeted by many as one of the most innovative in Brazil´s music scene. It carries the folklore’s tradition, the Congo, the African manifestation and the rhythm of its home city. Nothing more legit that a group that has its origins at a bucolic seaside resort in Barra do Jucu, which has among its members the true heirs of this secular tradition.
It is very difficult to define the Casaca´s style in a few words, and its almost impossible to translate it to text the vibrant and good energy that happens in the concerts.
Rooted and modern at the same time, when on stage Casaca is overwhelming! Fusing and recycling rhythm elements of the Congo, the band is better known for the impressive energy showed in concerts. The strength of the hand drums impresses and excites, and the casaca (typical instrument of the local Congo) makes everything looks fresh. All these elements combined with a strong footprint of rock & roll detonates an explosive sound mix with an impressive and contagious popular appeal.
The song “Anjo Samile” was the most prominent of the group, reaching first place in several Brazilian cities, and its video clip made it third place in the top TVZ of the Multishow channel, while the song “Da Da Da” was chosen by NASA to awaken the robot Spirit in the mission on Mars, giving even more visibility to capixaba´s band, with appearances in the main communication media in Brazil.
Constantly traveling around the country, meeting people and cultures, it became impossible not to add new elements to the band's songs. That exchange among the band, other artists and cultural events can be noted in every released album.
In this sixth chapter, the song “Magia” is a good example of the band's musical growth and how these new influences fit the songs. A new way of looking to the future without forgetting the past and being urban and provincial at the same time.
